Monroeville Zombies Kev Inaction: January 27th!

January 13th, 2010 @ 11:45 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Chuck K

  • You’ve seen our photos and pre-order details, but it looks like we now have an official date for this special edition Kevin Smith inaction figure. January 27th.

Kevin appears as a zombie wearing the classic Monroeville Zombies jersey. This limited edition will be available in your favorite comic shop, as well as through the Stash (pre-order information coming soon if it’s not already there by the time you’re reading this).

The figure is being advertised as having “zero articulation, zero accessories, and zero signs of life”. Gotta love that.

Thanks to Horror-Movies.ca for the info. While it’s still not the long-waited “Clerks 2” set announcement we’ve wanted, it gets another inaction in the collection, and that’s ok with us.

The “Twitter” Report…

December 27th, 2009 @ 8:27 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • With close to 200 tweets on the 25th and 26th, Kevin gifted his followers with a lot more holiday chatter, which mostly consisted of answering tweets that came his way via the fans. Here’s a choice selection of what came across the wire over this long holiday weekend:

Me & @smosier sitting down to record SModcast 101 in six hours. No new ep tonight, though. Next week. P.S.-Everything changes with SMod 101.

Via @Choccster “Everything changes with SMod 101? will you start charging?” As long as I can pay for server space, SMod will always be free.

@conantbrian “isn’t there at least the view askew tag?” No – because it’s not a View Askew Production. Peep the billing block and you’ll see I actually have only one less credit than I normally do: writer. Still my flick.

Via @Capn_Midnight “check the tree for wrap-up to BULLSEYE series!” You’ll find an IOU that reads “This year, if Marvel’s still into it.”

Via @FooRay “did you cut the trailer together yourself?” Nah. They have a whole department for that kinda thing.

Via @rtward “You don’t get to edit your own trailer?” Most directors don’t. I’ve cut some online trailers, but filmmakers are not marketers.

Via @jdr822 “proudest moment in your film career?” 8 minute standing ovation for CLERKS II at Cannes: http://clerks2.com/trainwreck/?p=79

Via @Modesix “Why is there only 1 show for Toronto? You know it’s almost sold out already?” Chill: if it sells out, we can just add another.

John Hughes said my name!!! “I saw Clerks, and it made me a little jealous. I wanted to do something similar. I like how he stays in New Jersey and retains that regional flavor. I admire what he’s doing.” Fuck. Thanks Mr. Hughes; the feeling was very mutual.

The full Hughes interview is, one of (if not THE) last he gave.

  • Right on schedule, Den of Geek has caught up with “Clerks II” this week, as part of their ongoing Kevin Smith retrospective. Once again, they’ve got a nice review followed by some commentary afterwards, which we’ve got a sampling of here:

“…O’Halloran and Anderson pick up the characters of Dante and Randal so easily it is like they are putting back on their favourite old shirts, making the audience feel as if two old friends have just popped in to let you know what they have been up to recently. The flow of their dialogue is seamless and totally in line with the previous film, something which really could have unravelled the entire movie if it had not been done right.

As always, Jay and Silent Bob add their own personal brand of comic relief throughout the movie and special mention goes out to the two new main additions to this Askewniverse, Rosario Dawson’s Becky and Trevor Fehrman’s Elias, who both slot into this world so brilliantly it is hard to believe this is the first we have seen of them.

Clerks II is a sequel that really works and should be made as essential viewing for any Hollywood writer/producer/director who is even thinking of putting a number 2 next to a movie.”

The retrospective will conclude next week with “Zack and Miri Make a Porno”. We’ll then run a post with links to the entire series in case you might have missed any.

  • Lots more Mewes in the news today – First up, the Bloor Street Cinema in Toronto has announced “An Intimate Evening with Jason Mewes”, which will take place on September 3rd. A new Mewes film is screening as part of the show, though since he’s got quite a few roles in the can right now, we can’t confirm which one. You can get tix online for the bargain price of $12.50 with no service charge. And also…
  • Jason Mewes: Stand up comedian? We received this news late so you’ll likely miss this show, but is this a sign of things to come? Mewes is apparently trying out a set of stand up material TONIGHT Chatham, Ontario (spending a lot of time in Canada these days, looks like, probably due to filming up there):

CHATHAM — Movie funnyman Jason Mewes is returning here this weekend. The New Jersey-based actor, best known as Jay — as in Jay and Silent Bob — in Clerks and other Kevin Smith films, will perform a stand-up set at the Encore Bar & Nightspot tomorrow night. He filmed a horror film, Silent But Deadly, in Chatham-Kent last year, though he says the film has been “put on hold.” Chatham-Kent, though, is an “interesting place,” he recalled.

Encore Bar is charging $12 at the door for the show tonight. If anyone happened to make it, drop us a line and let us know how the guy fared up there. It’s possible this is just a Q&A that they got mixed up. We’ve heard that some bar-hosted appearances can get a little dicey as far as acoustics and logistics, so tread carefully.

The First “Dicks” Set Photo Have Arrived!

  • The floodgates have opened! The first images of what looks to be, as we expected, a fairly accessible shoot for “A Couple of Dicks” are surfacing. Let’s take a look at what we’ve got so far.

Let’s kick it off with a great one. Here’s your two leads, Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan, “courtesy Accidental Sexiness”, which looks to be from a car interior out in public. Note in a few of the extra shots of Willis that there’s quite a crowd of onlookers. You gotta love that first one with the Morgan wince and the stoic Willis in shades. That shot alone just OOZES character.

Next up, this hilarious shot courtesy Gizmodo featuring Tracy Morgan in character. The pic’s caption author humorously notes that he prefers to think this is the way Morgan gets around the city normally. Good stuff. We’ve seen this pic floating around with ComingSoon.Net logos on it as well, so the origin is not 100% verified.

You might also want to head over to the awesome /Film where they’ve also compiled some photos along with a look at a crew member’s T-Shirt, suspiciously missing the “A” from the start of the title.

And last, but certainly not least, some exclusives here from fan Nicole, who stumbled onto the diner set where she was lucky enough to get glimpses of the leads and some face time with Mr. Smith himself. Take a peek at some candid shots from around the set outside the diner.

It’s just getting underway, folks — With just three days into shooting, it’s looking like we’ll have a much more public look at this production, which always gives us lots of excitement plenty to do around here. More to come!

  • Webmaster Harry Knowles has two kind shout outs for his latest DVD picks column for the month, over at Aint It Cool News:

ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO

The title was ZACK AND MIRI in the copy I bought at Target – but on AMAZON they seem to have the full title. Or is that an outdated graphic? I don’t know, but god damn this is a funny movie. Though upon reflection of the Blu Ray… I found myself wondering… Is it just me, or does the film feel awfully short. I never really look at running times on films. I just don’t obsess on that sort of thing, but I really wanted a longer film here. I think it is that I loved these characters and wanted to spend more time with them. Kevin done good.

      CLERKS II (Blu Ray)

I know most people tend to feel CHASING AMY is Kevin’s best film, but honestly… I love CLERKS II. It is just fucking great. Rosario? OHMYGOD! She’s just the girl you must love. And PILLOW PANTS? Genius.

  • “Zack and Miri Make a Porno” takes the “Best Porn Star Gone Hollywood” award, the very first one in the list, in Mr. Skin’s 2008 Anatomy Awards. The entire list is quite good, though you’ll need a Mr. Skin membership to view any actual “evidence” of the winners. The website specializes in specific tracking of nudity in film and TV.
  • It’s hard to believe that “Watchmen” is just two weeks away from theaters. Wow. Entertainment Weekly cites Kevin’s excitement (even though he’s seen an early cut) for this one to arrive:

Behind the stage, indie-movie icon Kevin Smith, a.k.a. the Most Famous Fanboy in the World, parks himself in front of a closed-circuit TV, a happy grin on his bearded mug. “You have to understand, I’ve been waiting for this moment for years,” says Smith. “This is it, man. This is the pinnacle. You have no idea how f–ing pumped I am.”

We’ll be there opening day. And probably again on Saturday. Clear your schedules to see “Watchmen” the weekend of March 6th. Trust us.

  • Filmgoer Pete sends us a scan of his ticket stub, proof positive that “Zack and Miri Make a Porno” is now playing everywhere in Australia!
  • Catch comedian Joshua Sankey, who recently resurfaced in a funny “Zack and Miri” deleted scene, debuting a brand new act this Saturday, February 28th, at Broadway Comedy Club (Downstairs Room) in NYC.
  • Keep your eyes on Quick Stop Entertainment, as Kevin confirms that he and Scott recorded a new episode which should debut TONIGHT (Sunday) at some point. Episode #77 is what you’re looking for.
  • Enjoy the Oscars tonight — 2009 was a cool year for flicks, dramas especially, a lot of great performances and films in the running. Should be a good show.
