- We’re all anxiously awaiting the arrival of the “Zack & Miri Make a Porno” webisodes from Chop Shop Entertainment, called “Money Shots”. While you’re waiting, though, we’ve got a nice little treat for you today — Chop Shop did some special Behind The Scenes webisodes for an online series that NBC is doing called “Gemini Division”, starring none other that “Clerks II”‘s Rosario Dawson. Even cooler, the DP they used was View Askew original Baby Dave Klein.
The BTS webisodes are now available for immediate streaming. Since so many C2 alums are involved, we thought you may wanna take a look. Special thanks to Zak at Chop Shop — We’ll keep waiting for the scoop on those “Money Shots”!
- The great “Clerks” shows up in Yahoo’s photo essay of the 25 Best Buddy Movies.
- A photo of two fans dressed as Jay & Silent Bob at the recent San Diego Con makes Geeklogie’s massive gallery of the best costumes of the year. Female Ghostbusters? Call us.
- Parade Magazine interviews Seth Rogen about “Pineapple Express”, though “Zack And Miri Make a Porno” also gets a drop:
Q: Next you’re going to be seen in Kevin Smith’s Zack and Miri Make A Porno, which is having problems getting an R-rating due to explicit sexuality.
A: Looking back on filming, it was sort of romantic. But there is definitely some sex, and I know it’s gotten a reputation as a filthy movie. We live in a world where you can disembowel someone in a youth hostel in Romania but you can’t show people having sex. I think it’s weird. I honestly don’t think it deserves an NC-17 rating. Maybe we should have taken ‘porno’ out of the title. That kind of freaks people out, even though it is like the number one industry in the universe.
Yeah, but we just don’t think “Zack & Miri Make a Movie” would have the same ring, ya know?
- Actor Jason Statham (of the “Transporter” series, “Crank”, and lots more) has gone public stating he’d love to take over Ben Affleck’s role as “Daredevil” in future films.
- Finally today, a familiar View Askew icon makes an appearance in this Intructables (Billed as “The world’s biggest show and tell”) listing of Napier’s Bones.

- In addition to the great Galactica clip above, we’ve got a ton of video for you in today’s edition of the ‘Bites. First up, one scooper has uncovered some never-before-seen footage from a Q&A that Kevin conducted in Melbourne, Australia a couple years back promoting the release of “Clerks II” . Thanks to Popcorn Taxi for the clippage.
- One of our favorite mash-ups of recent memory – A fan has taken the dour sountrack from that awesome “Watchmen” teaser (that we hope you’ve by now seen and drooled over) and mashed it up into a new “Mallrats” trailer. Gotta love it. First, check out the Watchmen trailer over at the Apple Quicktime site, then move onto this one. Major kudos to the author!
- The great JoBlo.com once again tosses up some View Askew coverage, with 2 brief interviews with stars Elizabeth Banks and Seth Rogen conducted at last weekend’s Comic-Con. Banks reveals some background on the Miri character, and Rogen chats up NC-17 and the ever-popular adlib question. Looks like it’s rough to get to these folks, good on JoBlo for hanging with the press masses.
- This week, the great “Reaper” finally premiered in South Africa – The Kevin Smith-directed pilot aired for the first time on TV there. If you’re in the country, be sure and tune on in.
- Yes folks, get ready for a site that will crack you up though you didn’t know existed — Ok maybe ya did, and if so, shame on you. But no, seriously, the “Mamarazzi” website, which is, you guessed it, dedicated to celebrity cleavage, cites Rosario Dawson’s famous rooftop “Clerks II” dance as #3 in their countdown of the “The 10 Hottest Celebrity Boob Jiggling Videos”. God bless the internet.
- And finally, a bit of News Askew Retro to end your day — Kevin and Joey Lauren Adams appeared on the MTV pick-up “Squirt TV” back in 1996 before they went off to make Chasing Amy. The gimmick was this was a public access type show that a young kid hosted in his actual bedroom. So, this dates back about 12 years now, and through the magic of YouTube, can now be watched online for the first time in News Askew history. Check out some retro, and enjoy. ‘Til next time…

- The trailer for “W.”, the upcoming Oliver Stone George Bush flick, has leaked to YouTube. “Zack And Miri Make a Porno”‘s Elizabeth Banks stars as the female lead. Since the trailer is very George-centric, we only get a brief glimpse of her in the role.
- Those of you with On Demand service on your cable may notice that HBO currently has the great “Mallrats” as a choice. So, if you’re too lazy to get up and put in the DVD, there’s an even simpler way to check it out. Access HBO’s complete On Demand schedule at their website.
- Against tough competition from “Schindler’s List”, “Clerks” ranked second on a recent IMDB poll asking viewers their favorite contemporary Black And White flick.
- Co-creator Seth Green cites “Clerks” as the influence for one of the skits on the new “Robot Chicken: Star Wars” DVD. Find it on the “chicken nuggets” extra.
- And finally today, congrats to Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, who announced they’ve got another baby on the way – Kevin got quoted in the story, mentioning he recently had Affleck over to watch “Zack & Miri Make a Porno”.

- An open source comic company known as “Tornado Comics Presents” recently finished a covers competition, focusing one of their entries on a character called “The Replacement Devil”. They’re such huge fans of Kevin, they tell us the based the character off his likeness. For further details on their projects, pop by their website.
- Another one of those LOLcats showed up with a “Clerks” theme — We still don’t really get these things, but fans tell us they’re all the rage. You go, kitties.
- 411 salutes some of the great TV and film roles of George Carlin at the end of their recent column, citing both “Jersey Girl” and “Dogma”, and “Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back”. We especially like this well-worded praise for the oft-misunderstood “Jersey Girl”:
“I’ve always been a sucker for “daddy stories” and I think Affleck delivered a solid performance of a single dad trying his best to raise his daughter. It is Kevin Smith’s most sincere movie to date. George Carlin played Affleck’s dad and did a great job in the performance, weighing sincerity with exasperation at the actions of his son throughout the movie. He was great in the film, as should be expected. “
- The Hollywood United Methodist Church will include “Dogma” as part of their “Finding Faith in Film” series this summer, on August 24th. No further details on the website, though we assume the films actually screen at the church’s location in Hollywood, CA.
- Attention Australia! Seth Rogen will be doing an interview in your area with Rove this Sunday, July 6th. Rove is an Aussie chat show (Letterman-esque) which airs Sundays at 9 PM local time. Shows reach YouTube by the next day, so we’re hoping to have links to the video soon after it airs (we’re crossing our fingers for a “Zack & Miri” mention or two).
- Brian O’Halloran’s new horror comedy “Brutal Massacre: A Comedy” screens at The Pioneer Theater in New York City throughout the month of July. The director, along with some of the cast and crew, will be in attendance for the first showing this Saturday, July 5th. We’ll have details on screenings in Texas and Los Angeles soon as well.
- Last, but certainly not least, in case you need another reminder – SModcast #55 hit the net this week, with more of the best humor on the web in MP3 format. For your free, fast exclusive download, hit up Quick Stop Entertainment…
SModcast 55: Naked Butz –

- While we visited the Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back Bluntcave set and had a blast, we couldn’t help but wishing we’d got to hang out for the days shooting the jewel heist by Chrissy, Sissy, Missy, and Justice. Entertainment Weekly seems to share our thoughts this week, including the lovely ladies in a new photo gallery titled Kiss Me Deadly: 25 Best Big-Screen Bad Girls:
CHRISSY, SISSY, MISSY, AND JUSTICE
Ali Larter, Eliza Dushku, Jennifer Schwalbach, Shannon Elizabeth
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001)
Hot jewel thieves pretending to be animal rights activists? Who may or may not be lesbians? Yes, please.
- TBS Superstation reports that “Jersey Girl” will soon come to their network. This will be the basic cable premiere of the flick, in what we assume will be a new, edited for TV format. No showtimes or dates yet, but we’ll let ya know when we hear more.
- Clerks II rightfully hits Cinematical’s list of “Deliberately Offensive (But Fun) Comedies”, with the following write-up:
3. Clerks 2
How could I not include a film that caused a well-known critic to storm out in mid-screening because of possible interspecies erotica? A film that includes a character trying to “take back” a certain racial slur? During a plane ride last week, I decided to forego the in-flight movie selection (Juno) in favor of this movie … for some inexplicable reason the Kevin Smith DVD was in my laptop bag. When the flight attendant interrupted me and I paused the movie, it froze on a screenshot of Randal with that slur visible on the back of his Mooby’s shirt. I realized that the image would be terrific to post as the photo at the top of this list, but unfortunately it proves my point a little too well.

- And finally today, perhaps another comic creator sneaking a “Clerks” reference in there — In the latest issue of “She-Hulk” (#28), She Hulk asks her Skrull friend Jaz how many partners she’s been with, her response, 5 simultaneously, but 37 in all. Huh. Have a weekend, folks.

- DirecTV’s channel 238, called “Reelzchannel”, will air a special titled “The Films of Kevin Smith” on Monday, April 28th at 2:00 PM EST. Since we haven’t heard of any new interviews being conducted for this special, we’re going to assume it’s a rundown of his filmography, maybe with some stockinterview footage tossed in. If we learn more particulars before it airs, we’ll let ya know.
- The IMDB ran a good “Clerks” trivia question this week:
Pretty cool, no? We’re wondering if there will ever be another successful flick made as cheaply. While “Red State” will certainly easily exceed the “Clerks” and “Chasing Amy” indie budgets, we’re curious to see what happens with that project, especially if Kev and Scott decide to independently fund it.
- A final bit of trivia/interesting news for the day – One of our readers tells us today that Guardian Angels Regional School in Paulsboro, NJ will hold a talent show tomorrow night where her daughter will participate. Why is this news? Well, ya see, this is the very same stage/auditorium that hosted the famous talent show from the end of “Jersey Girl” (including the great “Sweeney Todd” number). We’re told that “Kevin Smith Way”, the street dedicated to the man during filming there, is still taking on traffic. See ya next time!

- Catch Brian O’Hallorn and the entire cast of his upcoming horror comedy “Brutal Massacre”, next week at “Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors”, at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The discussion panel will take place on Saturday, April 26th at 2:15pm PT, with all the headliners, including our pal Brian along with other genre greats such as David Naughton, Ken Foree, and Gunnar Hansen. Of particular interest, Gerry Bednob, who Kevin has confirmed has a small three-scene role in “Zack And Miri Make a Porno”, will also be on the panel.
- Speaking of Dante, the character gets a brief shout-out in the blurb for an upcoming Fantastic Four comic title at IGN.
- And finally today, mark your calendars if you’re near Minneapolis. The classic “Mallrats” will screen at The Uptown Theater as part of their midnight movie series on May 17th. You saw how much fun the last screening of the film was in a recent update, so be sure and check out the film with a great crowd if you’re in the area. “Mallrats” remains one of the best View Askew films to watch with a midnight crowd. In fact, when there’s another Vulgarthon, we’re secretly hoping it might get dusted off for one of the slots. See ya next time!

- Big news for you View Askew & “Clerks” fans — We’d previously reported that Jason Mewes would be attending Chiller Con in Parsippany, NJ from May 2nd through the 4th, just a few weeks away. Now, the reason to make the trip gets even better! Brian O’Halloran and Marilyn Ghigliotti will ALSO appear and sign autographs at the show, in their first ever con reunion! Yep, that’s THREE of the main cast from the original View Askew Production, all in one place, happy to meet their fans and sign some swag.
We’ve had the pleasure of spending quite a bit of time with Marliyn and Brian over the years, and can attest to the fact that these are two of the most kind, gracious folks in the biz, who love their fans. Don’t miss this chance to visit the Con and meet three View Askew icons.
Note – This hasn’t yet been published on the website, but we can confirm this inside information is TRUE and that both Brian and Marilyn have booked their appearances. A good horror convention just got even better. We’ll see ya there!

- Jason Mewes has become the most recent guest added to the Chiller Theater convention in Parsippany, New Jersey, taking place from May 2nd to the 4th this year. There’s an extensive guest list that seems to keep getting better. Seems like a good con to attend, especially for those in the region. We have no further info on Jay’s dates of appearance or a signing schedule, but will let you know if we hear any more definite details.
- The always entertaining JoBlo site picks a scene from “Clerks” in their “Money Shots” series, a new column highlighting some of the best scenes in film history. Click over and see the hilarious segment that they chose. I fondly recall reaching this early scene for the first time and knowing that “Clerks” was something a cut above everything else. A fantastic choice, and still funny to this day.
- On a recent episode of MSNBC’s “Countdown with Keith Olbermann”, the host mentioned Elizabeth Banks’ upcoming role in Oliver Stone’s “Bush” biopic, and described her as “coming off her recent role as an amateur pornographer”. Cool to see that folks are already predictin “Zack And Miri Make a Porno” is what she’ll be known from, as we think it’ll be her most visible role yet.
- Finally today, a little “Clerks” love via this political blurb over at ESPN.com:
FUNNIEST POLITICAL STORY OF THE WEEK
Barack Obama bowled a 37 last week. Where’s Dante from “Clerks” when we need him? Thirty-seven???? Thirty-seven??????
