  • Retro alert! You can now view the full video (and audio, of course) for the original Clerks review from Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert via their site archive. Watch for the Ebert praise which caused so many folks to seek the original out back in 1994. It’s a great watch, you can see that Ebert immediately connected with Kevin and the world of View Askew — The late Siskel also heaps similar praise. It’s great to see this online after all these years — A welcome addition to the multimedia archive.
  • Thanks to YouTube, you can now peep out Kevin’s brief appearance on the DVD extras of “Hot Fuzz”. The segment featured is a brief moment from the Q&A session held after an early screening of the film. Seek out Fuzz on DVD now, another inspired entry from this brilliant team. Can’t wait to see what they do next (and secretly hope Kevin might be invited on board for a cameo in it somehow).
  • /film takes another route in confirming that Jason Bateman is not attached to play any roles in “Zack and Miri Make A Porno”, despite rumors that were running rampant otherwise. A couple weeks back, we checked with Kevin and
confirmed that the rumor was just that, and now, the /film guys have briefly spoken with Bateman as well. So, the entire cast of the film, even the desired cast, remain a total mystery. Speculating’s always fun, though — We’ll keep you informed of any whispers going ’round.
  • FREE EARL! The new season of quite possibly the best sitcom on TV right now, “My Name Is Earl”, starts back on NBC soon. Fans of the show recall our hero was left in the slammer at the end of last season — Now, word has it that he’ll remain there for the start of the new one, and NBC’s got a great campgain running to promote it. You can watch the complete “Free Earl” music video (done “We Are The World” style) as well as a web-exclusive “behind-the-scenes” both courtesty of NBC.com. Earl returns to NBC with a 1 hour season premiere on September 27th.
  • Over at his blog, promoting his new film “The Nines”, director John August releases a theatrical podcast commentary which they’re promoting for the film. He does, however, mention that Clerks II did it first (though this likely will be the first time it’s out coinciding with a theatrical release, as the Clerks II track did get pulled and saved for the eventual DVD due to fear of it interfering with audiences). Here’s the entry:

“But in the age of iPods, there’s really no reason why audio commentary has to be relegated to DVD. That’s why Ryan Reynolds and I recorded one last week for The Nines which is now yours to download. (47MB, right-click to save to disk)

This isn’t an original idea, by the way. Kevin Smith recorded an in-theater commentary for Clerks II, though I can’t find confirmation he released it into the wild. (Someone in the comments section will know.)”

  • And finally today, on a light note, with a name like Kevin Smith, you know there’s gonna be others — This “Kevin Smith Show” features a gentleman of that namesake doing a podcast on the paranormal. Enjoy, perhaps between SModcasts? See ya next time!

  • You addicted to the Nintendo Wii as much as this webmaster? Then you might find these Mii images from Flickr and ShowMii amusing. The Mii’s are the graphical avatars that you create to represent yourself on the system. They’re pretty fun and versatile.
  • Variety is reporting that our pal Ben Affleck may be joining the already impressive ensemble of “He’s Just Not Into You”:

Affleck in talks to star in comedy

New Line is in negotiations with Ben Affleck to round out the cast of ensemble comedy “He’s Just Not That Into You,” with Drew Barrymore and Nancy Juvonen producing through their Flower Films banner.

Shooting starts Sept. 10 in Los Angeles, with Ken Kwapis (“License to Wed”) directing.

Along with Affleck and Barrymore, “You” will star Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Connelly, Kevin Connolly, Bradley Cooper, Ginnifer Goodwin, Scarlett Johansson and Justin Long.

Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein (“Never Been Kissed”) adapted the bestseller about modern-day relationships by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo, who worked together on “Sex and the City.” The book focuses on how men and women often misconstrue the intentions of the opposite sex.

  • That famous “Robot Chicken” mention of Scott Mosier that we mentioned back in March of 2006 can now be witnessed on YouTube. Enjoy the Mosier goodness!

Smith & Johnson: SModcast Monday!

August 27th @ 9:57 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • The greatest podcast on the planet returns with another laugh-filled edtion, this week featuring special guest Bryan Johnson joining Kevin on the panel The guys chat up more high school-era memories this week, and spend quite a bit of time dissecting a rather gross YouTube video. The logline:

In which a special guest fills in for one of our heroes, prompting a heavy bout of reminiscences about what kind of purchases can set off parental fisticuffs, how metal is metal, what it means to be man-friends in Jersey, and saying goodbye to 42nd Street – all of which is interjected by a discussion of nature’s most evil arachnid.”

Get your FREE copy of SModcast exclusively at View Askew’s entertainment portal, Quick Stop Entertainment. Enjoy, and be sure to leave some comments or thank the guys for providing us with such fantastic free audio, week after week. SModcast is the perfect antidote for the Monday morning workday blues.

August 20th @ 4:37 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • SModcast, the greatest podcast in all the land, hits a milestone today — Episode number 25. The show continues to entertain more than any other ‘cast we’ve ever subscribed to, and remains absolutely FREE of charge. This week, Kevin and a couple special guests chat up their high school years quite a bit. And here we have the loglines:

      SModcast 25: Lynching Vixen

In which our heroes spend an unhealthy amount of time deconstructing a Rankin Bass classic, do a “Midnight Express” with a pre-street-date DVD, kill a franchise, lament the loss of holiday-programming luster, fail to enjoy adolescent keggers, get the blues at a strip club, miss opportunities to smoke on campus, have their bagged-and-boarded books threatened, and explore the thickest, strongest apron strings in central Jersey.

As always, SModcast is available for immediate, free download exclusively at your friendly neighborhood Quick Stop Entertainment, or through your favorite podcast subscription service. Yep, it auto-delivers the laughs direct to your computer or MP3 player. How cool is that?

As always, SModcast is free and the greatest podcast in the land, professionally produced and full of LOLs. The loglines for episode #24:

      SModcast 24: Rigg-er, Please!

In which the manager of a comic book emporium and a Canadian infamous for overstatement join forces with a newly-minted senior citizen to discuss past mistakes and the fallout of waging body parts, robotic scat games, hipping-up that which doesn’t require hipping-up, a drug-free “Underdog”, lying to customers, unlikely music to shop/screw to, the average length of straight sex vs. gay sex, and wax rhapsodic about one of the greatest action-movies-starring-a-guy-who-later-went-bat-shit ever made.

Next week, SModcast turns 25! What will the guys have in store for us? Come on back and see – Or subscribe to SModcast via your favorite MP3 delivery service. Brought to you exclusively by Quick Stop Entertainment and your friends at View Askew Productions.

Kev & Jen Present: SModcast #22!

July 30th @ 4:31 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • We’re constantly entertained and thrilled by SModcast, easily one of the most cleverly-produced, fun podcasts in all the land. This week, Jen Schwalbach returns in Mr. Mosier’s absense, and we’re treated to another fascinating round of husband/wife dialogue that you just wouldn’t expect to be made public — Yet, these two take to the mic so naturally that you just feel like the third person in the room, listening in on their discussions on past partners, upcoming events, and, of course, the joys of the San Diego Comic-Con. Kevin writes it up as such:

      SModcast 22: Schwalcast

The return of the distaff, in which our heroes talk about the likelihood of running into former intimates at ComiCon, the bending of the space/time continuum in an effort to bed a younger version of your spouse, why divorce is not an option, inappropriate hugging of the famous, Marion Ravenwood: gender traitor, shame-shorts, insecurities both founded and unfounded, middle-aged proms, the world wide hairshirt, and Shecky.

SModcast remains the exclusive offering of our own Quick Stop Entertainment. It also remains FREE. Get on over there and download it now — Or, set your iTunes or MP3 client of choice to subscribe, and be among the first to hear SModocast week after week. Enjoy!

SModcast: Lucky #21!

July 23rd @ 10:30 am | 1 Comment » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Freshly back from reshoots with the newly-cast Missy Peregyrm for “Reaper”, Kevin joins Scott Mosier for another edition of the immensely popular and entertaining weekly program SModcast. This week hits lucky #21 with the following loglines:

SModcast 21: Little Outhouse on the Prairie –

In which the patriarchy is restored and our heroes discuss a wide range of topics like Flushable Moist Wipes, the triumphant advent of Flushable Moist Wipes, the historical significance of Flushable Moist Wipes, dry corncobs vs. Flushable Moist Wipes, magic ice boxes vs. Flushable Moist Wipes, and “Heroes”.

Ah, the joy of flushable moist wipes indeed. As always, free, $0.00, for your download anytime you want, exclusively through the great Quick Stop Entertainment. Download, enjoy, and be sure to comment here or at one of Kevin’s blogs with your thoughts on the show. The dude loves to hear your feedback on SModcast.

Kevin’s Art Collection ROCKS!

July 21st @ 9:09 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Kevin was obviously highly impressed at the Crazy 4 Cult art show last week, not just enough to be on hand to promote these fantastic original works, but also to purchase quite a few of them for himself.

The blog goes on to feature images of some of the coolness that will now adorn Kevin’s walls, including not only the View Askew pieces, but some great other themes including Donnie Darko, Twin Peaks, The Big Lebowski, They Live, A Christmas Story, and more. If I were an artist, I’d be Jones-ing to get some work into this show next year. Just super, super cool stuff. Pick up your own copy of the show poster, by Chris Lee, for $15, by calling the Gallery – 323-937-7088 – or emailing them at gallery1988@aol.com.

As always, the full story and ALL the juicy photos are available exclusively at Silent Bob Speaks or the Myspace blog.

  • Some rather unexpected news today — Remember that Green Hornet project Kevin once had that we thought might be dead? Seems that it may be resurrected by an unlikely source – Seth Rogen (“Knocked Up”). Columbia now has the property, and Seth’s coming on board to possibly write AND star in the flick. For more details and commentary, check out Defamer, Cinemablend, Variety and of course Aint It Cool.
  • Chasing Amy is cited as a GOOD example of a film with gay themes in this negative review of “I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry” — The film’s getting hammered by critics this weekend.
  • The autograph schedule for the San Diego Comic-Con (next weekend) is now up – Sadly, folks, no mention of a special autograph session with Kevin. You can still see him from 6:15 to 7:15 on Friday night, and who knows, he may even show up early to intro the screening of his “Reaper” pilot, at 11 AM that morning. However, the lovely Missy Peregrym will be on hand regardless, so it’s a win-win.
  • And hey, speaking of that “Reaper” pilot — Every year, networks with new shows start sending pilots out for review around this time. “Reaper” has been one of the first with the distinction of leaking its way onto the net. So, those of you who are torrent-savvy can probably track this down and check it out. We’re not totally sure of the legality of it all, so can’t condone it, though we’re contacting the CW to see if we can get a legal look for News Askew — If anyone with the inside track on “Reaper” can send us a copy of the pilot for a legal review, please do let us know.
  • G4TV was kind enough to hook us up with a direct link to their recent interview with Kevin for the archives. We already ran this last update, but in case you’re reading this later on, the link here will always get you to the video.
