Supes Reborn AGAIN???
- From The Daily Buzz comes some distressing news for fans of Kev’s Superman Lives script…It appears that interest is starting to return to the film, possibly, yet again without his brilliant script:
“Superman Lives” Again?
Variety columnist Michael Fleming reports that a new script for Superman Lives has been written by Dan Gilroy and is in the hands of producer Jon Peters. The new script is designed to cost less than $100 million to shoot, and Nicholas Cage is supposedly interested in the project again. Fleming had no word on whether Tim Burton was still interested in directing.
We wonder if Jon Peters is still demanding his precious spider finale? Ugh.
Previews Magazine Plugs VA…
- Lots of nice View Askew & Oni Press plugs in the latest issue of Previews magazine can befound. Here’s a summary…
1) Page 16 –
“Cash Register Holiday Cheer” – Oni Comics has teamed up with View Askew toreunite writer Kevin Smith and artist Jim Mahfood on the new Clerks HolidaySpecial, an all-new comic book adventure presenting the Yuletide through theeyes of those who are forced to experience it more than any of us… retailclerks.
“This seemed like a natural idea,” Smith said. “Anyone who has worked behindthe counter knows what hell holiday shopping can be. So, obviously, Randal andDante are going to be looking at this season with a whole different slant.”
As in his other comic books with Oni Press, Smith uses the Clerks HoldiaySpecial to expand upon the world he has created in his films. In the originalfilm and the early comics, there has always been a mysterious door between theRST video store and the Quick Stop Mart. Only nw can it be revealed that thedoor leads to an apartment of an old man who Randal has become convinced isSanta Claus, and he’s not going to rest until Dante, Jay, Silent Bob, andwhoever else is in earshot is convinced, too.
2) Daredevil Preveiew Page 156
Basically a synopsis of the 4th issue. An interesting note though, Previewslabels Daredevil # 4 as having “Massive potential, a guarenteed Top Ten hit.”
Apparently, #4 will see the appearance of a big DD baddie named Bullseye.
3) Daredevil # 1 Variant Cover -page 240
Being offered again for the bargain price of $6.95 is the variant cover. We haven’tseen these or had our chance to get our hands on one, but we hear it’s pretty cool!
4) Clerks Holiday Special Full page ad -Page 281
Very cool full page ad with a blown up cover (done by Art Adams). It’s the samecover that appears over on our Clerks Comics page, but it’s made up to look like a christmascard with “Happy Holidays from Quick Stop and Rst Video” on the top and “Ho,Ho, Noonch” on the bottom.
We’ll try and get our hands on some scans of the stuff mentioned above. Send ’em if ya can!
Jay & Bob In Savage Dragon…
- Jay & Silent Bob continue to invade the comic realm! There’s a one panel cameo of the duoin the latest Desperate Times comic which appears in the back of each issue of The Savage Dragon, currently at issue #53. Anyway, one of the characters in the story is looking to buy some pot, so they go to Jay and Silent Bob. Who else, right?
Commentary
- Welcome to October…By the way, where the hell did September go? Time flies. Anyway, we’ve got a juicy update to start the month off right, with some neat stories that should catch everything up on the Askew front.
By the way, we believe that, on this very day, Kevin, Ben Affleck, Jason Lee, and others are sitting down to record the Mallrats commentary that will be included on the forthcoming special edition DVD. No release date has been set yet (on that OR the Amy disc, for that matter). So, Kevin’s been busy hanging out with Ben and hasn’t stopped by the web board lately with a full update…But most likely he’ll drop by sometime over the weekend, if not sooner.

Affleck Nears ‘Zero’ Hour…
- Yet another project for Ben Affleck? Could be…This sounds like a good one, too. We’ll follow the progress to see if it actually comes to light. Here’s the press release:
Affleck nears ‘Zero’ hour for CW Prods., Universal
Ben Affleck, who collected a best original screenplay Oscar in March with Matt Damon for “Good Will Hunting,” is in talks to rewrite CW Prods.’ “Suspect Zero” at Universal. While sources say “Suspect Zero” has a role that Affleck might well play, there is no commitment for him to star in the production. Affleck, who continues to be in demand as an actor, has several writing assignments lined up. He has screenplay commitments at Castle Rock Entertainment and Miramax Films. Affleck is repped by CAA. “Suspect Zero,” a thriller to which director Christian Duguay (“The Assignment”) is attached, was originally a spec screenplay by Zak Penn that sold for a reported $750,000 against $1 million. Richard Friedenberg (“A River Runs Through It”) came aboard to rewrite the project for producers Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner. Affleck appeared in last summer’s hit film “Armageddon” and starred in “Chasing Amy.”
