  • World famous gossip columnist Liz Smith has even gotten on board the Dogma press bandwagon. In her column today, she comments on the film’s newly found fame now that it’s gonna hit Cannes:
MIRAMAX’S controversial film ”Dogma,” a religious satire not deemed funnyby some people, has been chosen as an offical entry at the Cannes FilmFestival. The French screened it and agreed with director Kevin Smith thatthe movie is a ”fantasy and love letter to both faith and God Almighty.” Of course, ”Dogma,” which stars Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Salma Hayek, AlanRickman, Chris Rock, Linda Fiorentino and Alanis Morisette, among others, isnot really a Miramax movie anymore. When objections to the film’s contentbegan to snowball, Bob and Harvey Weinstein personally bought up rights tothe film lock, stock and barrel for about $12 million. And they intend tosell it elsewhere as an indie. Director Smith will go to Cannes, as willAffleck, who’ll leave the Vancouver set of ”Reindeer Games” for the event.

Speaking of who’ll be there, a few NA readers have also checked in to let us know they’ll be in town to scoop up all the Dogma dish that they can…Anyone wanna smuggle us in a suitcase?
