Appearing out of competition in special screenings is Kevin Smith’s “Dogma,” with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, which made the cut after Miramax boss Harvey Weinstein personally encouraged Jacob to include. Weinstein is said to be less than pleased about the scant profile of Miramax productions in the festival’s main categories, although the company does have U.S. distribution rights for closer “An Ideal Husband.”
