Tonight, on ‘Entertainment Tonight’, you’ll be teased (or threatened, depending on your take on View Askew) with an announcement that on MONDAY’S ‘Entertainment Tonight’, they’ll be first-looking the ‘Dogma’ trailer. It will not be in theatres this weekend, sorry to say; but you will be able to see it Monday night. That’s something, right?

So again – Monday night, ‘Entertainment Tonight’, preview of the ‘Dogma’ trailer. All interested should tune in.

At the Cannes Film Festival, Dogma stars Ben Affleck and Salma Hayek gave TEEN PEOPLE the lowdown on their heavenly new flick.

TEEN PEOPLE: Two fallen angels find a loophole in God’s plan. Alanis Morissette plays God, and Clerks sidekicks Jay and Silent Bob play prophets – it’s no surprise there’s some uproar over your flick! What do you think of the charges of blasphemy?

BEN AFFLECK: You’d have to have the sense of humor of the Ayatolah to take this movie all that seriously. It’s clearly farcical, clearly warm-hearted.

TEEN PEOPLE: Salma, were you worried about how your native Mexico – traditionally considered to be a very religious country – might receive the film?

SALMA HAYEK: The new generations are very different, not the stereotype of what people normally think of Mexico. I cannot do or not do a film because of what Mexico might think.

BEN AFFLECK: See, that’s why I love her.

TEEN PEOPLE: So then, why did you decide to make Dogma?

BEN AFFLECK: It’s nice to be in a movie that feels like it has substance, when so many movies are so homogeneous. It raises the issue of personal responsibility and accountability – who’s responsible for our actions? It’s one of those things that there aren’t really answers to, there are only ruminations on the subject.

SALMA HAYEK: We’ve been on this planet for two thousand years. We still can’t figure out what we’re doing here, what is the purpose of this whole adventure and who put us here in the first place. Dogma has so many philosophical ideas, it can make people think. I don’t think this movie is going to change anybody’s perspective of the world – movies shouldn’t do that anyhow!

Kool Kieth, Clerks Animated, and other bullshit

Now let’s talk about the Clerks Animated series. The series WILL NOT be based on my drawing style. It was Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier’s (Kev’s kick-ass partner in crime and producer) original idea to have me come in and design the look of the show. However, when the series was brought to Disney my involvement was slowly but surely fazed out. Seems like the art directors and other people involved in production weren’t interested in working with me. The drawings I’ve seen look a little influenced by my work, but they actually have a look all their own. It’s pretty cartoony stuff but I think it looks pretty cool. I would’ve loved to have worked on the show but i guess Disney just didn’t want me involved after all. That’s cool ,though, cause now when it comes to me developing my own animated stuff one day it’ll all be me, ya know? I’ll design the look of the show, do the character and background designs, etc. etc. So life goes on and there’s obviously no hard feeloings between Kevin, Scott and I. These guys are the shit and they continue to hook me up with fat gigs, like the Talk magazine thing. Speaking of that, the first comic appears in the third issue (November). check it out if ya can.
