- Ahhh…After a nice long weekend, we’re back with some news, mostly Dogma stuff, of course, to start off this week. We’re anticipating a busy week with the footage airing tonight on national television (see below) as well as the impending studio release announcement. Looks like I’ll be heading to Toronto this weekend for the Saturday show, as well. Details on that around the middle of this week. Anyway, let’s roll with today’s edition of News Askew…

- Yep, you read the headline right…We’ve got it! Entertainment Tonight came through and aired the new Dogma footage on the show tonight (with voiceover, unfortunately), and we’ve got the full version of that broadcast right here for those of you that missed it due to being out of town, telethons, not having TV’s, and the like.
So now, courtesy of ET…We’re proud to present the Internet Debut of the first footage from the official DOGMA TRAILER!
You can download the movie in streaming RealAudio currently. A better QuickTime format is coming soon. Sorry to say we’re still not experts at capturing this stuff, so the quality’s the best we can get for ya at the moment.

Needless to say, the flick looks absolutely fantastic. We hadn’t seen many of the FX shots in place, and what’s been done looks fantastic. The trailer’s also very tightly edited to show the scope of the film without giving anything away. Just what a good trailer’s supposed to do. Bravo.

- Kevin’s doing some Canadian promotion yet again! This Friday, he’s scheduled to be coming in for the Humble & Fred show on 102.1 fm (CFNY, Edge 102). The show airs early, between 5 am and 9:20 am, and is available online in Real audio, so get those work PC’s with the headphones hooked up! You can access the feed HERE.
- Two new Dogma summaries have appeared in the media…The first comes from the Toronto Sun, with locations and showtimes for the flick and a few words:
Dogma: Sept. 11, 9:15 p.m., Uptown1; Sept 13, 9:15 a.m., Cumberland 2 – A trash talking 13th Apostle, an abortion nurse of miraculous background, a “buddy Christ,” vengeful angels and a giant poop monster: they’re all grist for the mill of Kevin Smith, who vowed the 1994 fest with Clerks. His satire on Catholicism isn’t the blasphemy the righteous fear; it’s frequently funny, more often silly and occasionally, right on the mark.
Also, the St. Louis Post chose Dogma as one of the films most worth seeing this fall, but also cited fears of it not havinga large opening (though we’ve heard otherwise):
“Dogma” — Even though this film is slated for November release, don’t expect it to play in St. Louis then, or possibly at all. Why, you ask? Not only is it controversial, it’s got a descendant of Christ working in an abortion clinic. Written and directed by Kevin Smith (”Clerks,” “Chasing Amy”), the story tells of a reluctant savior (Linda Fiorentino) trying to stop the scamming of renegade angels (pals Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, reunited for the first time since “Good Will Hunting”).
The film had been made for Miramax, which is owned by Disney, but was sold to distributor Lions Gate when it looked as if it would create some problems. Oh, one other thing: Alanis Morissette plays God. Now isn’t that ironic?”

That’s about it, really…Exciting day though! That was actually OUR first look at the final Dogma trailer ourselves, andwe’re impressed! It’ll definitely do great things for the film. It’s been over a year (believe it or not) since we firstlaid eyes on the workprint, so seeing the final product is something we’re highly anticipating. ‘Til next time…
