• We’re back. Been taking advantage of some of the slow times to catch up on some flicks… “American Psycho was definitely a good ticket last weekend, great flick. Recommended. The more astute of you might notice Guin Turner‘s relatively small role in the flick (which she also co-wrote). Turner, a friend of Kev’s, had quick cameos in both “Amy” & “Dogma”.

On the video front this week, a few noteworthy arrivals — “The Messenger, which competed with Dogma in theatrical release, shows up today on DVD with a new director’s cut version. Didn’t care too much for the flick, though. Too damn long (But Luc Besson still rules! – Chris). We’d highly recommend renting “Three Kings” and “House on Haunted Hill” though, couple of different but entertaining flicks now on shelves everywhere. “Hill” is everything that “The Haunting” should have been. And then finally, don’t forget Jason Lee‘s turn in the ensemble flick “Mumford”, on video this week as well. Lee plays an outrageously wealthy guy whose modem manufacturing plant keeps the small town alive.

In the news, still not a heck of a lot going on, as you’ll see Kevin attest to in his post below. Sounds like some good stuff on the horizon, though. We’ll be here to cover it, you can count on that. Kev’s post and a couple more tidbits round out the News Askew for this Tuesday…

• We realize that the last one didn’t work, but we personally tested this one and we’re happy to report that it’s working just fine. So, finally, like a year after the appearance it seems, here’s the final part in Quicktime format. As always, get the latest Quicktime to make sure it works. This part features the most popular gags, including the Eisner jab. Again, we apologize for taking so long to get videos to ya, if we ever get a decent piece of capture equipment or can figure out why Chris’s stopped working properly, we’ll get better at this.

• Dogma will be released in Germany on April 20th, by Kinowelt. The German site for the flick can be found HERE. Early reviews from the German press and moviegoers have been quite positive.
• As with the Clerks DVD about a month ago, the suggested retail price of the ass-kickin’ Mallrats DVD has now been dropped as well. It’s gone from $34.95 to $29.95. If you’ve got a player and for some crazy reason did NOT buy this disc, GET IT NOW.

• We’ve now got a complete list of times when you can catch Kevin on The Independent Movie Channel’s Split Screen:

• Well, we mentioned the lack of discussion on the Tulane appearance yesterday, then suddenly a bunch of folks flooded in with their reports! Seems that some folks were disappointed in the event, mostly due to the fact that Kev’s actual time on stage was shorter than usual, and moreso that the staff cut off the autograph signing session so they could go home. We understand that’s frustrating. But keep in mind that Kevin’s got no control over these appearances, he’s basically brought in and does what he’s told. He talks as late as he’s allowed and he signs until everyone has a chance to meet him and get anything they want autographed. Those of you that have read about past appearances know this. The only time the guy’s forced to not do either of those things is when staff members who put on the appearance cut him off. And it sounds like that’s what happened here. It’s obvious the board who put the event together doesn’t read this site very often, or they’d have known how to prepare.

And so, in the effort to keep stuff like this from happening again, we’d like to present a few guidelines for those of you hoping to schedule Kevin for an appearance at your venue sometime in the future:

Keep in mind, these are just guidelines, nothing official. It’s just that after covering about 10 or so of Kev’s appearances, we’re starting to see patterns of what works and what doesn’t. Nothing’s a certainty, especially since Kevin’s schedule may not allow all the stuff we listed above, but it never hurts to be over-prepared. Anyway, that’s about it. Hopefully those of you planning to have Kevin in your area sometime will keep this list and remember it. It should make things better for everyone. The way the venue handles the situation can make or break these appereances, but Kevin will always do the best he can with the hand that’s dealt.

• Kevin’s been on IFC’s Split Screen a lot lately. We hear they’ve got a Kevin Smith interview that’s been airing in 2 parts, but it’s tough to dig up concrete dates and times. Check your local listings. If we hear definites on when you can catch the interviews, we’ll definitely let you know. IFC tends to re-air lots of stuff.
• For the Kevin Smith/VA completionists, the Rock and Carlin A&E Biography shows are available by calling 1-800-423-1212 or going to www.biography.com.
• The new issue of Premiere Magazine (with Ashley Judd on the cover) features an article with Kev about Sundance. We’ve yet to see it to verify, but hope to get a transcription for ya soon.

• We know this is a long shot as far as Askew scoops go, but it’s a cool exclusive so we wanted to run it. Above we’ve got2 very early sketches dropped in our path that somehow made it out of the Dreamworks labs. They’re from the upcoming prequel to “The Prince of Egypt”, tentatively titled “Joseph”. One is a sinister-looking corn stalk from a dream sequence, and another isa few concept sketches of Joseph. Why we running them, you ask? Word has it that Affleck is going to be lending the voice tothat character (though we hear the animators had no reference to draw from, which explains why the dude doesn’t seem very Affleck-like). Thanks to “Cohee Lundon’s Finger-Cuffs” for the exclusive.
• Dogma’s still selling out around the globe: The flick arrived in Hong Kong theaters last Thursday (the 6th of April), but we hear it’s only in 2 cinemas. Tickets for all the shows have been sold out consistently, though, again proving that there’s a lot of Smith fans around the world.
• Hey there UK’ers and other Region 2 DVD folks: There may be hope for you regarding a Dogma DVD with all the extras soonafter we see the Region 1 release this fall. A region 2 DVD rumor site had this to say:

• A clip from Mallrats (featuring Jason & Stan Lee, as always, no relation) aired on last night’s Daily Show on Comedy Central (A damn funny show, we gotta say). The episode should re-air tonight at 7 PM EST before the next guest hits at 11 PM. Catch it today at 7 if ya wanna see (The reason for the clip was news surrounding Stan Lee’s new comic book deal with DC).

• Hey everybody! Long time no talk. Today, we’ve finally got a bit of news for ya. Kevin appearaed at Tulane last evening, though we’ve yet to hear much on how that one went so far. We DO have a ton of newsbites today (only newsbites, because it’s not anything MAJOR, just some tidbits here and there). Alright, so let’s take a look at this stuff:

• Well either a TON of you were just dying to get some scoops to our site after the quiet day yesterday, or you’re all BIG A&E Biography fans. At any rate, we’re sorry but we MISSED Kev’s appearance on Chris Rock‘s A&E Biography special last evening. Kevin gave some commentary on Chris, and the show even featured Dogma clips of Rock’s famous entrance. Kevin was on the program towards the end, talking about Chris’s influence on America and the type of guy Chris is. As always, he had some very insightful comments.

TONIGHT, however, A&E will air George Carlin‘s Biography, which we also remember Kev giving a few words for a while back. We’re not sure if Kev’s stuff will be on there, but we’d give it a good chance. The Biography web site DOES mention Carlin’s Dogma stint, though. Check your local A&E listings for showtimes tonight. You may even find a rerun of the Chris Rock episode.

• Nothing really new, but a bit that ran on Dark Horizons today regarding a fan who ran into and questioned Kev regarding the next flick. Seems like he’s closer to admitting something, but as we all know, the mystery’s part of the fun with him.
