  • Got a lot of mail on this one – Kevin appeared on a FOX special promoting the new “Planet Of The Apes” movie last night, where he briefly mentions how he watches the original flick with his “2 year old” Harley. Many saw it, but no one had an exact quote. That’s the basic idea, though. If you have a copy, please let us know!
  • According to Amazon, the Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back score CD is set for an August 21st release.
  • Countingdown.com continues their Interview Askew series with J&SBSB’s makeup supervisor, Patty Androff. You can read this short little interview right HERE.

  • There’s a slight View Askew reference in the latest issue of Savage Dragon (#87), in which Dragon calls a character “Silent Bob”. We’ve got a scan of that page for you right here.
  • These 2 humorous Chasing Amy/Star Wars parody posters were spotted over at TheForce.Net.
  • Kevin’s starting to do more radio interviews for the film, though our being out yesterday caused us to miss a couple: Today, he’s scheduled to be on Edge 102 in Toronto sometime in the morning (though we’re probably too late on this one). He was also set to phone into John And Frank in Tucson, Arizona yesterday morning. If anyone caught these appearances, send us a report!
  • Video Store Magazine recently ran a big article on the Dogma SE DVD release and the allure of extras in the market:
CUSTOMERS CLAMOR FOR DVD SPECIAL EDITIONS

Customers who already have the bare-bones versions of their favorite movies are willing to dish out the extra money to own the special editions. And sales of fully-loaded editions of even the most cult-like titles can sometimes rival sales of theatrical blockbusters, as Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment has found to its delight with Kevin Smith’s Dogma.

Columbia TriStar released a movie-only edition May 2, 2000, even though the supplier planned a special edition of Smith’s controversial religious satire. Indeed, Columbia TriStar notified retailers and the public early on that another edition was on the way. The studio chose to release a bare-bones edition because it had a window to meet and Smith has been too busy to participate in the disc in time for that deadline.

That movie-only edition sold more than 800.000 units at $24.95, according to studio representatives.

The long-awaited double-disc special edition of Dogma, packaged in a double amaray keep case in an eye-catching sleeve, finally arrived June 26, prices at $29.95. To the studio’s astonishment, it had an 18 percent sell-off its first day on store shelves and to date has sold more than 200,000 units.

Quick sales of the relatively low budget Dogma rival those for a $100 million box office hit, v.p. of sales John Reina says. “That’s new. It says a lot about the movie, the producer, the packaging and the retailers getting behind it,” Reina says.

Smith’s July 1 in-store signing at Dave’s Video The Laser Place in Studio City, Calif. drew approximately 1,200 fans.

`”A film like Dogma appeals to a certain audience,” Reina says. “It’s like (Monty Python and the) Holy Grail – give me something more no Holy Grail, I don’t care what it is, I love it so much I’ll watch it 30 different ways.”

“Dogma seems to fit that,” he says.

The SE was number 9 on the top 50 list of DVD sellers, not bad at all for a Special Edition that had a regular edition out earlier in the year!

  • Those folks who watch the Big Brother 2 webcasts on the internet very regularly have noticed that current cast member Hardy listed himself as being an extra in Dogma. Here’s this info from a recent summaries post:
Q. If you could cast any actor to star as you in the movie of your life, who would it be?

Someone suggested Ben Afleck for Hardy but Hardy said no way because Hardy was an extra in the movie “Dogma” and he didn’t like him. He said maybe he was just all involved in learning his lines. He said Matt Damon “was a great guy”…

  • A magazine called “Kingsize” was spotted in a recent Borders, which we hear has a 2-piece spread on Bryan Johnson and “Vulgar”, as well as other controversy surrounding clowns. If anyone has the piece scanned or typed in, let us know.
  • This ASCII art of the logos of the flicks must have taken someone too much time for us not to mention.

  • Speaking of art, here’s a cool little piece of art that my cousin Matt recently created. He’s just graduated college and looking to break into the biz, so if anyone needs some help, let him know!
  • X-Entertainment features some pics from this year’s San Diego con, including a good shot of that guy who dressed as the Buddy Christ. The direct link to that pic is HERE.
  • Finally today, congrats to Mike Avon Oeming, Bluntman & Chronic artist, on the Eisner Award he won for “Powers” (Best New Series) at the San Diego con!
