Silent Bob Coats: Now Available!!!

November 17th @ 7:30 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • It’s been one of the most sought-after, asked about items in View Askew history, and now, after years of inquries, AbbyShot Clothiers, through the cooperation of View Askew, have made an exact replica of the famous Silent Bob trenchcoat available for purchase. Here’s their official announcement:

Snoogans, LunchBox… whatever you call him, Silent Bob is short on words and big on style. His trademark overcoat, previously unavailable, is NOW ready to order from AbbyShot!
Licensed by Kevin Smith himself, Silent Bob’s Coat is just like the coat used in Dogma, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Kevin loaned AbbyShot his original coat, so the design is 100% accurate!!
Made from Green & Black Melton Wool and lined with Black Kasha. The coat features an oversized lapel, welt pockets, an inside breast pocket and your very own Silent Bob Pin of your choice!
Available in sizes Medium, Large, X Large, and XX Large.

You read it right — AbbyShot had the original coat to work from, so this coat is a perfect replica. And just in time for the holidays, no less — The perfect gift for your favorite View Askew fan, or…yourself. It looks cool, and, not to mention, warm and toasty.
The current plan is for the Bob coat to be on display at WizardWorld texas (so you can see one in person), and will also be featured (worn by the host) for a day on the Space Channel program, Hypaspace. Please note, first of all, this is an AbbyShot item, not a Stash item, and thus must be ordered directly through the manufacturer. They will need measurements from you as the coat will come custom-tailored for an absolutely perfect fit. This coat is based directly on the item worn by Kevin in Dogma and J&SBSB.
Get tons more details, photos, and order your custom-tailored Silent Bob coat at tbe AbbyShot Clothiers site today! Stay warm for the holidays and be one of the only folks in the world to own the officially licensed Silent Bob trenchcoat.

Jersey Girl Stills Galore!

November 13th @ 11:46 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Douglas Prosser

  • Wowee folks, you want Jersey Girl stills, you got ‘em! Thanks to Empire Movies, we’ve got THIRTY new stills from Jersey Girl! Some look like actual film photos, others are press/publicity stills. Through the thirty stills, you can get a look at pretty much every major character in the film, and quite a few scenes. We’ve got a few choice shots above here, but you can surf over to Empire to view their gallery OR check them out as part of our ever-expanding selection of Jersey Girl photos and info over at Exit 37.
Just a word of warning: By virtue of looking at some of these, you may see some minor spoilers for the film. Then again, without having seen the film, they likely won’t make much sense out of context. So we’d call it a pretty safe bet if you’d just like to get a look at all of the characters (and even a couple of Kevin directing or working behind the scenes). Happy browsing!

  • Chat Askew has re-opened with a new look, Stash Bash 2 photos, Live Chat, Forums, and more.
  • Online comic “Network Operations Center” features a subtle but definite View Askew reference in today’s edition http://www.networkops.cc/. Appropriately enough, it’s #37 in the series.
  • Those wacky folks at Fark are at it again, this time combining movies into one crazy poster — A few entries include “Reservoir Cats & Dogs” and “Reservoir Dogma”.

Tidbits From Kevin!

November 11th @ 11:09 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Anytime Kevin drops by the WWWBoard, we’re always on the lookout for some interesting little hints and answers that we think you’ll find interesting. Keep in mind this stuff is normally pretty accurate, as it’s coming from Kevin himself, but everything is subject to change as well. We think you’ll find quite a few of these tidbits interesting, though:
On the next Vulgarthon: “After Bashing it back east, we may have to ‘thon it out west.”
On coming to Scotland and other countries abroad: “No plans to do so, but if I’m over in the UK promoting a flick, it could happen.”
On Having Mewes in all his future films: “If he behaves himself, then yes.”
On Fletch Won’s production start date: “Not sure yet. Gotta get on Draft Two…”
On Mosier Producing Ranger Danger: “He IS producing that one. He’s not producing whatever we wind up doing within the next six months (if anything) because he’s taking a vacation.”
On future inaction figures: Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back prototypes are being done, and will likely be the line of inaction figures to follow the Dogma series (which looks like the best yet).
Kevin will be at the November 28th screening of Dogma at the Nuart theater (similar to what he did with “Mallrats”).
Baby swag “Jersey Girl” Stash items are currently under consideration.
Details on the View Askew Almanac: “We just got the first batch back from the printers this week. If you’re even remotely a VA fan, holy shit, this is the calendar for you. I love it. It’s my favorite piece of merch we’ve ever produced.”

So there ya go! Wow, Vulgarthon probably out west, J&SBSB inactions and perhaps a later start than we originally expected for Fletch Won? Lots of very interesting stuff there. We’ll keep you informed as we learn more on those subjects and others.

  • Here’s one of the niftier fan-made things we’ve seen in a while — A pop-up book featuring a scene from the Clerks Animated Series! We’ll let Laine take over with the description of this creation:
The two pages I’ve made are a recreation of the “Why are we walking like this?” gag in the Clerks Animated Series. On page one you can make Dante & Randal climb the side of Leonardo Tower by pulling on the severed human finger (whoever gets that gag wins a shiny, official, bonafied No-Prize). On page two the disk in the middle rotates to show the flowerpot falling and breaking at the clerk’s feet, as well as capturing the camera trick of revealing how oddly horizontal our minimum wage heroes actually are.

Check out the shots of the book right here. Nice work, Laine!

  • The latest issue of Maxim magazine has a small blurb announcing Kevin’s involvement with the “Fletch Won” project. It mentions nothing other that he’s directing and that it’s a prequel to the other Fletch flicks. Ha ha. “Fletch flicks”. Try saying that 5 times fast.
  • A UK fan caught Troma Films (they of fantastic B-horror film fame) head honcho Lloyd Kaufman at a Q&A over the pond recently, and when asked about Kevin, said the following (approximately):
“Kevin Smith? I think Kevin is one of the few who seam to make the movies they want and still be in the hollywood system. I mean what did you think of his last movie the Silent Bob film?”
Fan-boy: It was OK, funny.
Lloyd: Yes I liked it, I think he’s still making films on the same level as his first in terms of control we will see how he goes but yes I like his films.

Man, you gotta wonder what a Kevin Smith/Troma team-up would look like…

  • Kevin and Jay appear in yesterday’s Chicago Sun-Times print edition. On page 44, in the “Showcase” section, you’ll see a shot of the guys attending the “Cat in the Hat” premiere party. If anyone’s got a scan, pass it on, we’ll post it.
  • The new “Hollywood Life” magazine (formerly “Movieline”) has a Kevin mention in their annual “Most List” (November 2003 issue). On page 77, Kevin is given the title of “Most Nervous Post-Gigli”. We beg to differ. And we’re sure Kevin would be the first to rebuke that statement.
  • Dogma and Kevin score a mention in a writeup on “Matrix Philosophy” at the Cinecon site. Scroll down to “THE ORACLE” section if you wanna check that out.

  • Ming’s got Windows Media versions of the Panasonic clips now available at the View Askew site. Enjoy!
  • The new Buffy the Vampire Slayer / Angel novel, “Cursed” by Mel Odom appears to have a familiar duo as background characters in a scene (set at a convenience store, of course). The references are on pages 85-86:
Two other men, dressed in faux-gangsta clothes, stood only a few feet from the store entrance. They looked human. The longhaired blond guy danced and sang to the beat of the boom box playing at his feet. The other guy, bigger around but shorter, nodded his head in time to the beat.
Dealers, Spike realized. Or front men for demons.
(Action takes place inside the store, and makes its way outside. )
Hefting one of the bodies, Doxxil or Muullot threw the body toward one of the front windows. The corpse — and Spike was sure that it was a corpse — exploded through the glass. Blood spattered the jagged edges of the opening left behind.
The two guys standing around the boom box at the front of the store scattered.

The convenience store in question is in Sunnydale, not Los Angeles. Maybe Jay & Bob passed through on their way to LA and Miramax?

  • The Internet Movie Database IMDB.com had this question for their daily trivia today:
Joey Lauren Adams wrote the song that her character sings in this movie.

If you don’t know the answer, go back three spaces.

  • Affleck is interviewed regarding “Paycheck” in the latest issue (November 14th) of Entertainment Weekly.

  • And finally today, Cliff reminds us that Jay & Bob were again popular Halloween duos this year! Catch ya at the next one, folks…

Panny Ad: Behind The Scenes…

November 6th @ 10:50 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Ming

  • As promised, here is is! A 2 minute clip of Kevin pontificating on the set of his Panasonic (or “Panny” as he affectionately refers to the company) DVD recorder commercial. It sure looks like Kevin enjoyed working with that sheep. The footage goes by all too quickly. You’ll want to DL this one, add it to your collection, and enjoy it again and again.
The file is currently available at the View Askew site in QuickTime format, along with the previously mentioned 30 and 60 second ads. Windows Media versions are on the way for your Quicktime-challenged types out there. Surf over HERE and enjoy bringing our servers to their knees.

Kev Doles Out Advice For “Jane”…

November 6th @ 10:49 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Jeanette V, Dave Bednar

  • Kevin took over the advice column guru role for “Jane Magazine” this month and answered a few girls’ questions with both humor, honesty, and, actually, some pretty good advice. Check it out:
DEAR MAN
Director Kevin Smith dissects your neuroses after mulling them over for three months.
Reader’s Q: My first kiss with this guy was awful. Do I give him another chance? -Toni, Santa Fe, N.M.
Kevin’s A: Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. If you really like a guy enough to jam your tongue in his bacteria-laden mouth, then be patient enough with him to help him over the rough patches. If he’s kissing like a moron, let him know there’s a better way, and then show him how to do it. We’re easily trained, us men. We’re clay, ladies, mold us. We want to make you happy, so that when you dump us for another guy, you’ll come back to us when the new dude’s a lousy kisser who won’t take direction well.
Q: My new boyfriend and I get drunk every time we’re together. It’s scary to think of hanging out sober. What should I do? -Name withheld
A: Demi Moore? Is that you? If you’ve got to be loaded to hang out with the boyfriend, just try it sober for a week. If yu’re both still digging one another dry, then go back to getting blitzed daily, secure in the knowledge that you’re in love and not simply seeing this guy through beer goggles.
Q:How do I deal with my significant other’s annoying pet? -Robin, Troy, N.Y.
A:Get an even more annoying pet. That way, the battle of the sexes plays out via unsuspecting animal proxies and not via rash actions and unkind words between you and your partner. Pet shops stay in business, the economy gets healthier, the cost of living comes down, and I finally get a break on my friggin’ taxes.
Kevin’s question for you:
Q: What kind of woman writes to an advice column anyway? Don’t you people have any real friends?
A: Please, aren’t you pals with Bennifer? Don’t talk to me about “real” friends. -Amy. Newark, N.J.
