IMDB Scoops & Fun…

May 11th @ 7:34 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Justin McGill

  • Sometime a run around the IMDB will give you some neat tidbits and fun mistakes. Here’s a quick rundown of some of our actor friends and what the database has reported regarding their upcoming projects:
An interesting sounding flick coming up with Jason Biggs. “Guy X”. Plot Outline: A dark comedy about the Vietnam War involving terminally wounded veterans held in a secret Arctic military base. Along with Biggs is the lovely and talented Natascha McElhorne (Ronin, Solaris) as well in the title role Micheal Ironside (Top Gun, Tortal Recall, Starship Troopers, and mort recently the voice of bad ass superspy Sam Fischer in the Splinter Cell series of games).

Some interesting casting in Affleck’s new rom-com “Man About Town” — of course everyone knew it had the lovely Rebecca Romijn, but also of course features Kal Penn (Superman Returns), but also Monty Python GENIUS John Cleese as well as tv comic icon Howard Hesseman. Adam “Hebrew Hammer” Goldberg (Dazed and Confused, Saving Private Ryan) also is part of the cast.

As for Affleck’s “Truth Justice and the American Way”, with Adrien Brody and the ever beautiful Diane Lane, also toss in Robin Tunny to round out a solid cast. What really sets this film apart aside from the true story aspect of old Hollywood is that prolific Soprano’s director Allen Coulter (who filmed some of the BEST shocker University, as well as the 3rd season’s strange FBI centric premiere “Mr. Rugerio’s Neighbohood”. Coluter is also helming HBO’s upcoming epic mini series “Rome”.

A FUN look at Mewes filmography shows him as being in the IN PRODUCTION “Green Hornet”, although no director or other stars are even announced. Is Mewes playing the Hornet?

  • Webmaster supreme Ming Chen got the 20 questions treatment from The Askew View in their new articles area. Askew View is the home of the every-growing Pixel Pound. We’re currently working thru a 20 Q’s of our own for the site. Should be done with it soon.
  • Seems Kevin’s unfinished (but coming soon, we’re told!) Spidey/Black Cat work gets referenced in the latest edition of web comic Spider-Fun.
  • Ex Star-Trek NG star and author Wil Wheaton gives Jay Mewes a kind shout-out in his blog for May 6th, regarding poker play. By the way, those poker tournys in Vegas? Tough business. Ouch.
  • We seem to recall the “Meow Mix” bar where that famous “Chasing Amy” scene was filmed came up during the 10th Anniversary Q&A — Now the joint is in the news again after closing back in 2004. The owner of that club’s opened up a new place , so perhaps if future lesbian bar scenes are needed in View Askew flicks, they can scout it out.
  • USA Today also took a cue and mentioned Kevin’s “Sith” review. Lots more folks have seen it by now, though Kev certainly was among the first — Alright, so HOW ABOUT US!?!? Hook some brothers up, eh? Anyone anyone?
  • Here’s a neat little tidbit — Footage of stunt work in Jay & Bob made it into a documentary…And it’s NOT ours! Here’s the report:
Sure now that “Teaparty” has been screened, JSBSB behind the scenes footage is fairly commonplace, but I was shocked to see some tonight in a documentary about Stuntwomen. The Doc is called “Double Dare” and it follows two stuntwomen. The older, established one is a woman by the name of Jeannie Epper and one of the first things she does is a brief stunt role in JSBSB. She is involved in the Miramax chase scene and goes crashing into a table when Jay and Bob bike past. It’s a great film and a real must watch for anyone interested in what really goes into the final product that we see in the theater. It will be playing the rest of this week at the Gene Siskle Theater in Chicago for anyone who is interested.

‘Til next time…

Garner And Affleck Expecting…

May 9th @ 9:26 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by hobbes, Paul Simon, Dion Dudoussat, Jon Okonis

  • Just in case you haven’t heard or read about it yet, E! Sources are confirming that Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck will be expecting their first child this fall. Check out what they had to say about it right here…
E! Sources Confirm the ‘Alias’ Star Is Expecting a Little Affleck
By Gary Susman, Entertainment Weekly

Jennifer Garner

Ben Affleck

Are Daredevil and Elektra having a superbaby? Well, maybe off-screen. E! Online reports that Jennifer Garner is expecting Ben Affleck’s child, citing multiple sources close to the couple as having confirmed that Garner is three months pregnant. The stork report comes just two weeks after People and other outlets published reports that the ‘Daredevil’ costars had become engaged. The baby would be the first for both Affleck, 32, and Garner, 33. Still no word on when Ben and Jen might wed; the marriage would be the first for Affleck and the second for Garner, whose 2 1/2-year marriage to former ‘Felicity’ costar Scott Foley ended in 2003.

Affleck publicist Ken Sunshine declined on Saturday to respond to E!’s pregnancy report, saying he doesn’t comment on his client’s personal life; then again, Sunshine has also dismissed reports that Affleck and Garner are engaged, despite published descriptions of the proposal and the ring. Garner’s rep has not commented on the baby news.

A November due date for Garner could pose some production problems for ‘Alias.’ Producers may have trouble writing her pregnancy into the plot, since Sydney’s eggs were harvested last season. On the other hand, it would be hard to hide the pregnancy with the typical baggy costumes that expectant TV actresses often wear, since Sydney favors skin-tight outfits. And production of Alias, which is scheduled to resume in July, can’t begin any sooner, since Garner will spend much of the next two months in Vancouver shooting the romantic comedy ‘Catch and Release.’ Still, if anyone can wriggle out of such a tricky situation, it’s Sydney Bristow.

The Vancouver Province also ran this story on Garner’s condition and the pending filming of CATCH AND RELEASE with Kevin…

We’re about to be blessed with the presence of Jennifer Garner and the rumors and paparazzi baggage that travel with her.

As tabloid reports circulate that have the Alias star ready to marry Ben affleck and/or pregnant (not that we’re buying into either), rehearsals for the film Catch and Release get underway in Vancouver this weekend (although at press time, it was looking like it had been pushed back by a few days)

Beau Affleck won’t be around much, considering he’s playing George Reeves in Truth, Justice, and the American Way about the investigation into the supposed suicide of Reeves, who played Superman in the 1950’s TV series. Filming just got under way in Toronto.

However, there’s a lot Affleck related about Catch and Release , besides Garner. Kevin Smith one of his best buddies, has been cast in a big role. Smith, of course, is the writer and director behind early Affleck flicks such as Mallrats, Chasing Amy, and Dogma, and appeared as Silent Bob in those flicks.

Also rumored for a role is Jason Lee, who starred in the above Smith flicks.

And there’s the involvement of Jenno Topping (which probably started the whole ball rolling), who is married to Chris Moore, the co-creator of Project Greenlight (among other Affleck related projects), Affleck and Matt Damon’s reality show for budding movie makers. Moore wil be in town to babysit their two kids while Topping works on Catch and Release.

Smith, by the way, is driving here with his wife and young daughter and most likely the couples two dogs, who should be right at home in Vancouver.

After all, their names are Scully and Mulder.

UK Clerks DVD on The Way?

May 8th @ 6:03 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Richard Ross

  • After the story we ran the other day on CLERKS’ anniversary in the UK, one of our intrepid scoopers did some digging around on the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) webpage. All DVD special features must be certified by the BBFC in the UK. From the looks of this, the entire CLERKS X DVD will be released without any editing. This is big news for UK fans since CLERKS has never been released on DVD there. The only way to get a copy was to import the Region 1 version or the Austrailian version, as they share the same region as Britain. Good news indeed!

  • In celebration of CLERKS’ 10th Anniversary in UK theaters yesterday, here’s some original promotional materials picked up by one of our faithful scoopers.

  • Jason Lee’s new sitcom project “My Name Is Earl” gets some great exposure from E! Online’s Kristin Veitch in her “2005-06 TV Season Commandments” column this week. Check out what she had to say…
1. Pick Up These Pilots: There are more than 100 pilots (basically, show tryouts) in consideration for the new fall season, and no one is supposed to see them. But tapes are floating and sources blabbing, and I can tell you that the following pilots are, by all accounts, this season’s biggest and brightest:

• My Name Is Earl (NBC), a comedy starring Jason Lee (Almost Famous) as a low-rent crook who wins the lottery, is the funniest damn thing you’ve seen since Arrested Development.

You can check out the entire article right HERE.

  • And finally today, HERE’s a funny video of a commerical Ben Affleck did overseas for L’Oreal shampoo.

Latest News On CLERKS 2…

May 5th @ 6:07 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Kevin dropped by the board recently to spill the latest on the filming schedule for CLERKS 2. Check it out right here…
Most of y’all may already know this from reading “My Boring-Ass Life”, but just in case…

So production on “Clerks 2” has been pushed back to a September start, to allow me to head up to Vancouver this week for the two month and change “Catch & Release” shoot.

Beyond that, everything’s locked-and-loaded with the flick. The budget’s in place and the cast is almost locked. This move will probably pooch the idea of debuting at Sundance ‘06, but while that would’ve been a poetic move, as Mosier pointed out, it’s not like it would’ve been a triumphant return or something: we’d already had that moment when we debuted “Chasing Amy” up there in ‘97, after the theatrical crash-and-burn of “Mallrats”.

As per Scott…

“In ‘97, we had nothing to lose. Most folks had written us off after ‘Rats’, and didn’t expect much out of ‘Amy’, so we were able to surprise them. Now? We wouldn’t be regarded as underdogs. We’d be showing up with a flick for which there’s already a bunch of expectation. We don’t really need a film festival to launch this flick, as based on the amount of press we’ve gotten already, it seems like the media will wanna talk about it anyway. So missing Sundance might not be such a bad thing, really.”

That being said, we’re hoping for an early spring debut (I’d like to open in February/March, while kids are still in college), and a possible trip to Cannes in May (in the Director’s Fortnight or Un Certain Regard categories, if not the International Critic’s Week section, where “Clerks” had its Cannes debut), for our international launch.

Anyway, that’s where we stand at the moment.

Sith Review Continues To Proliferate…

  • Kevin’s early look at the final Star Wars prequel has set the net aflutter, making the rounds at such popular locales as Aint It Cool News and Slashdot. Now, the discussion forums at well-known film review site “Rotten Tomatoes” has come alive, as folks posted the review, started to have their own Kevin discussion, only to be railroaded when Kevin himself came on board to lay down the smack to all the posters who thought he wasn’t watching. The entire thread is HERE or you can start with post #114 on this PAGE. You go, Kev.

Also, Australian newspaper the Sydney Morning Herald has posted a piece on Kevin’s early peep on their website. SMH is one of the biggest newspapers (if not the biggest) in Australia.

  • Word comes from on high that Kevin’s episode of “Dinner for Five”, which he guest-hosted (with Jason Lee, Stan Lee, Mark Hamill, and JJ Abrams as guests) will be airing on May 27th. IFC. Get it or make a friend who’s already got it. And be sure and watch our Upcoming Events for that and other great stuff on the way.
  • If you look close, you’ll catch a VERY brief mention of Kevin’s Sith review in Jeannette Walls’ gossip column today.
  • And finally, on this light news day, new castings for Joey’s movie! The Hollywood Reporter scoops that Laura Prepon, Tim Blake Nelson and three-time best supporting actress Oscar nominee Diane Ladd are joining the cast of Bold Films’ Come Early Morning, which started principal photography last week in Arkansas.

Written and directed by Joey Lauren Adams, the film centers on a woman in her 30s who is beginning to come to terms with her selfish and prickly relatives, her own self-worth, and her search for meaning.

  • Chris is going to be running the show for about a full week starting Wednesday eve, as Brad’s off to the sun and sin of Las Vegas. So, starting then, be sure and send to SCOOPS or direct to Chris. We’ve got some more features on the back burner ready to roll out once we’re both back in the virtual office, though, so keep your eyes peeled for more goodies on the way.
  • And, don’t forget: Regular updates to “My Boring-Ass Life” continue over on our local blog page. You can make additional comments and go back and read all of Kevin’s current and past diary entries right to the start in a tidy, calendar-like format. We’re aware the RSS feed over there’s been flaky, and are debugging that problem. More to come with that feature as well. As always, thanks for stopping in at News Askew today!

KLSX Show: The Complete Audio & Details!

May 1st @ 8:31 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Will Wilkins, Darren Crist

  • The always-timely Will comes in with the complete KLSX clippage for you from the big radio show in LA on Saturday night. We’ve got MP3 of the entire broadcast for you, commercial free, straight ahead. Kevin was joined on the evening program with Askewers Brian Lynch, Jason Mewes and on-air guy Matt Stout. Here’s what he had to say about his experience hosting the program as the front man this time:

Los Angeles, CA
April 30, 2005

Part One
43:22
Part Two
44:11
Part Three
54:05

Thanks, all, for listening in. We had a haphazard start, but I think by the second hour, we were in a good place with the whole affair.

Last night, I discovered that I don’t like being the front-man of a radio show. I liked my three days on Alice because it was Sarah’s show, and she got to steer it, while I simply followed her lead and got to chime in with the funny. Last night, I found myself in the Sarah role and Brian was me. Good for Bri, not so good for the Sarah-proxy. Riding shotgun, I’ve discovered, is way easier – because all you have to do is tag-up on the leader. Go back and listen to the Alice stuff; that’s all I did for three days. And that’s a lot more fun for me.

Mind you, this is not me taking anything away from Brian or Mewes, who were great and did what they were supposed to do. But I’ve learned that I’d rather be a guest or second banana. It’s really not that different than the Q&A’s: in that situation, the audience is in charge, and I’m just tagging up on what they say, in the form of story-telling.

If I were to do this in the future, I’d wanna be paired up with someone like Sarah – who’d be in charge of running the show. In radio, I think I’d rather just be a sidekick.

Not saying no to radio; just saying what I’d rather do in radio.

In any event, we won’t be doing it again ’til at least after “Catch & Release.”

And here’s a fan/listener’s take on the show:

After hearing about Kev hosting an LA radio show, I decided to make an impromtu 9pm trip to LA, and by the time I got there, was listening to Kevin, Brian Lynch, Jason Mewes, and Edgar Wright shoot-the-shit for a few hours. Now the first hour was kinda slow, not much talk from Mewes or Bry, and Edgar wasn’t there yet. But after that hour, it was a flat-out riot. Most of the show seemed to be dedicated to Star Wars, with a lot of talk about Kev’s review. At one point, he started naming off people who blasted him on the Ain’t it Cool boards and proceeded to rip them apart. Also a caller called in asking Kev if he was in fact involved with the new Star Wars TV project, and Kevin said this, “I’m not saying if I’m involved or not, all I’m saying is that I’d love to be apart of it.” After that, they started taking calls, asking people there their show should be called. One of the memorable ones were: Not that Bad (the one they seemed to like the most), News Askew, Jersey Grill, The Smith Mewes Lynch Review, and Yes, We’re Open. Then, after talking to callers for a while, they touched a bit upon a possible comic-book sequel to Shaun of the Dead, which would be called From Dusk to Shaun. And finally, talked a bit about Mewes’ two years or sobriety. All-in-all, a great listen, and hopefully it’ll become a regular show.

We realize that only a select few of you were in earshot of the program on-air, so we’ve got it all for your listening enjoyment right here. If you’re one of our many workday surfers, pop in the ‘ol headphones and enjoy while you waste your Monday away…
