Clerks II / Now You Know DVDs: December 5, 2006!

June 23rd @ 11:57 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Karla

  • Kevin and Trevor appeared on Detroit radio as part of the ongoing Clerks II promotion. This time, it was WKRK, where the BIG NEWS slipped: Clerks II AND Now You Know will share a DVD release date: December 5th, 2006. This is of course, subject to change, but at presstime, that’s what we’ve got. Way cool, eh? There’s a complete podcast (in two parts) of the appearance under the “Deminski and Doyle” banner on the left. The links are there, but we hear they won’t actually start working until sometime this weekend.

Another area station, WRIF has also posted a short summary and a couple of pics from Kevin and Trevors appearance at their place. We believe Trevor will now be joining Kevin for further dates on his radio tour, as he mentioned he’d be travelling with Kevin for the upcoming Boston gigs this weekend as well.

Minnesota Home To Kev’s Next?

June 23rd @ 11:57 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by John Lovegrove

  • Exciting news! TwinCities.com reports that Kevin will return to Minnesota to film his next flick, a non-Askewniverse production. He also reveals it is indeed a romantic comedy, he’s hoping for snow (required in some scenes), and writing a part for Rosario Dawson:
Minnesota, here he comes: ‘Clerks’ director wants snow

When Kevin Smith visited St. Paul Tuesday to promote “Clerks II,” which opens here July 21, he already was planning his next visit to Minnesota. Next time, he’ll be making a movie.

The untitled romantic comedy will be Smith’s second film shot in Minnesota — he made “Mallrats,” most of which was shot at Eden Prairie Center, back in the winter of 1994. “Fargo” was shooting here at the same time, although that production ended up moving north to try to find the snow that was needed for many of its scenes. That makes Smith — who needs snow for his movie, too — a mite nervous, but he’s still committed to filming scenes here.

No casting has been announced, but Smith says he’s hoping “Rent” star Rosario Dawson, who’s in “Clerks II,” will be in it. “She knows I’m writing it and she knows there’s a part for her,” says the writer-director-actor.

We’ll keep you posted as we learn more about this mystery movie!

  • Philly.com will sponsor an online chat with Kevin at 2 PM on Monday, June 26th (yes, THIS Monday, folks). They’re offering up an e-mail address to send your questions in, so we’re not sure if the chat will be open to all to participate in, or just to watch. If you wanna know something, it wouldn’t hurt to send it in ahead of time. Get some good questions brewing!
  • Wanna see Clerks II early? Sure ya do! MovieContests.com and Alliance Atlantis are giving away double passes to the advance screening of the flick, which will take place on Thursday, July 20th. The screening will take place in Vancouver. Entering is as easy as filling out a form at their website and, as is with all Canadian contests, answering a SKILL question. Oooooo. Good luck, and win it, News Askew readers!
  • The official clerks trailer that you’ve seen at the official site is now also available via the widely surfed Apple Quicktime site. An ipod-sized version is also there.
  • Kevin’s Superman script gets a mention in this review of the new flick from Comic Book Resources. As always, watch for spoilers — We’re waiting to see this one before reading up on all the reviews.
  • More glowing press for “My Name Is Earl”, this time from Australian publication “The Age”. Enjoy your weekend, folks! Thanks for stopping in and we’ll see you again real soon — Less than a month until Clerks II!!!

The NEW Becky Poster!

June 22nd @ 9:17 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Kevin Smith

  • Kevin cryptically posted this new version of the Rosario (as Becky) poster today, but didn’t mention if this teaser would replace that previous Rosario in leather shot that so many folks (present company included) dug. This image certainly represents her character in the film better (we certainly don’t recall the black leather in the film, and we’re pretty sure we WOULD recall such an outfit), so it could just be a marketing thing. We’ll see what we can find out. Still worth hanging on your wall regardless, of course.

Clerks II: TV Ad HERE!

June 22nd @ 9:17 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Kevin Spellman

  • YouTube does it again! Here’s the Clerks II TV ad that’s now airing in select markets , though we warn you, some spoilers contained inside including one BIG one…So watch at your own risk. Also interesting is the “This Film Is Not Yet Rated” tag on the end…Though the R has been approved, we guess it’s not official yet or something. So, we’ll wait for that R-tagged ad, in the meantime, enjoy this, the first of what we’re sure are many Clerks II ads to come.

As always, we recommend going in totally cold on Kev’s flicks, the surprises are so much more fun (and this one really does twist around a lot)…But of course, it’s there if you wanna peep it. Enjoy.

  • Bruce checks in from Houston with a nice summary of Brian & Jeff’s appearance on KTBZ Radio this morning, which confirms the theatrical podcast:
“I heard Jeff and Brian this morning on KTBZ in Houston talking about ‘Clerks II’. They talked about their careers in VA productions as well as how they each met Kevin. Mentioned a podcast to be available for free download a week after the 7/22 release that will synch up with the movie, so you can get behind-the-scenes info before the DVD comes out. DJs were geeked out about meeting the guys, as they are big fans of all of Kevin’s movies. All-in-all, a good interview. Made me want to see the flick even sooner.”
  • The IMDB’s “Truly Trivial” repeats one from a few years back, but in case you missed it, or are rough on your View Askew history, check this one out:
This Oscar-winning actress turned down the role of God in Dogma, which later went to Alanis Morissette. (answer)
  • Kevin gets some props at Pop Culture site 411mania today when one of its members discusses his desire for a remake of the film “Spies Like Us”:
3) Spies Like Us – Kevin Smith may have eventually missed out on remaking Fletch but this other Chevy Chase flick could do with a dust off. I know everyone loves Jay and Silent Bob and I would love to see Jason Mewes and Smith transplant themselves into the role of bogus spies used to distract the enemy is comedy gold waiting for mining. It would also be nice to see this particular dynamic duo trying on different characters for once.

Call us crazy, but it could be funny. See ya later!

Clerks II: Theatrical One Sheet!

June 21st @ 4:20 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Tim Hobday, Kevin Spellman

  • The Weinstein Co has officially finalized the one sheet for Clerks II, and it’s a true beauty. Click the pic for a nice high resolution version of this work of art, featuring the beautiful Rosario Dawson flanked by our two beloved duos. It’s a nicely done poster which should catch a lot of eyes, and definitely look good here at News Askew home base up on the wall amongst the other flicks of the past. Of course, it’s GOTTA be signed, so we’ll let you know how you can get your own signed copy via the Stash as soon as possible, as we’ll most certainly be ordering ours up as well.

The version we have here is a little photoshopped-looking, admittedly, due to the source. The final version, which you can see a shot of at sites like Canmag, Coming Soon and the great JoBlo. Kevin is also reading comments on the one sheet at the Board. Personally, we dig it. It does its job to attract the consumer and gets a simple message across. Like the one-sheet, Clerks II is a winner. Love that tagline, too.

Until then, be patient, click and stare, and wait for this one sheet to arrive at a theater near you.

First Clerks II Ad Airs!

June 21st @ 4:19 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Weaver, Kevin Spellman

  • The first ad for Clerks II has appeared on television in an amazingly visible spot — During last night’s NBA Finals. The ad aired between 10:45 and 10:55 EST and represents some excellent initial exposure for the film. Looks like we’re going to see a fairly big publicity push for this one. The ad DOES contain a few spoilers for the film, alas (so watch out), and plays to the tune of AC/DC’s “You Shook Me All Night Long”. We’re guessing it’s going to show up a lot more in the coming days and weeks, so stop zapping those ads and look for it — Unless you’re worried about the spoilage, of course.
