- US Magazine has listed Dogma in its November issue as one of “The Big Sleepers†Ten underdog fall movies you shouldn’t miss:
#4 DogmaMatt Damon and Ben Affleck play fallen angels who try to hustle their way back into heaven by scamming God (Alanis Morissette) with the involuntary help of an abortion clinic volunteer (Linda Fiorentino) who may be a descendant of Christ. Yikes! Writer/director Kevin Smith, a practicing Catholic, has been unfairly hammered by the Catholic league for a film that never strays into sacrilege to express faith in both God and irreverent laughter. (November 12)
- The Hollywood Reporter has a blurb today on Ben & Matt‘s production, “The Third Wheelâ€:
Miramax Films has picked up North American, Australian, New Zealand and U.K. rights to “The Third Wheel,†a romantic comedy executive produced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Produced by Damon and Affleck’s Pearl Street Prods. in association with HSI Entertainment and Tomorrow Films, “Third Wheel†stars Denise Richards, Luke Wilson, Affleck and Jay Lacopo. Directed by Jordan Brady (â€Dill Scallionâ€) from a script by Lacopo, “Third Wheel†follows an average guy who finally gets a date with the girl of his dreams only to discover that the couple must spend the night with an uninvited stranger.
- The Sun, an English tabloid, ran a piece in their Showbiz section on Dogma, featuring the Ben & Matt from the one-sheet,with the headline “Hellywood Angelsâ€. Ouch. It spoke briefly about the plot of the film, and also mentioned Linda and Salma as “heavenly angels whose mission is to foil the boysâ€. No mention of Kev or any of the other crew. Oh well, anypublicity helps.
- It’s a ltitle early (and a lot odd) to report, but both “Clerks†and “Mallrats†are going to be screened at the GeekPride festival next spring in Boston. Ummm…Alllright. We’ll remind ya in the Spring. Til then, visit HERE.
