Dogma: UK Update…

December 6th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Aidan Power, Darren Gray, & Nick Barker

  • The Kevin Smith UK Archive site has gone online! The object of this site will be to contain just the UK-related Dogma press, including appearances, articles, and interviews. The site’s created and run by Matt Simpson, so feel free to e-mail him your questions and comments. We’ll try and keep up with this stuff here at News Askew, as well.
  • Dogma will be showing in the Irish Film Centre from the 26th till the 30th of Decmember and from the 2nd till the 6th of January. This however doesn’t mean it will get a general release, the Irish Film Centre being an art house cinema.
  • UK student readers might be interested to know that some free Dogma promotional postcards might be available from their Student Union Building. One scooper picked up a couple of Loki and Bartelby postcards from his this morning. Save someextras for us!
  • Loaded, one of the UK’s most influential magazines has Dogma stuff up the wazoo this week. First, there’s the (first ever?) UK interview with Jay Mewes, 1 page interview, 1 page pic. Jay does a splendid job, with references to The Stash departure and his poor driving skills. Secondly, and better, is the review of Dogma itself. 9.5 out of 10, one of the highest scores we hear they’ve ever given. It’s a positive, spoiler filled review with lots of praise for Kev. We’ll try and dig up a transcript soon.

  • IGN posted an excellent story on Jason Lee’s upcoming Cameron Crowe flick (still untitled!). In it, Lee’s the frontman of a 70’s band called Stillwater (and we, for one, think this is going to be Lee’s big mainstream breakout flick). Anyway, in addition to the nifty little article, the site’s managed to get promotional shots of an album cover used in the movie, and man, it looks MAJOR authentic! Check out the story HERE, and click the thumbs for a better view. We’ve also got an ensemble shot of Lee and the rest of the band.

Dogma Holds For Another Week…

  • Here’s your top 10 box office for the weekend. As you can see, Dogma again did quite well considering it’s been around for almost a month, and up against stiff competition. 7th place with 2.15 million. Take special note that the flick has now outlasted Pokemon, pulling ahead in grosses for the week! Outstanding.

  • Comedy Central Buys Dogma TV Rights…

    • In a rarely-seen move, the cable network Comedy Central has bought first network broadcast rights to Dogma! If for some crazy reason you miss the film theatrically AND on DVD/VHS AND on pay cable (shame on you), you can catch it on CC sometime in the year 2002. At any rate, it’ll be fun to see what they change some of Kev’s dialogue too (remember that Mallrats ABC debacle)?

    • Well, that’ll teach us to take a Sunday off! As you veteran visitors know, Sunday is usually our catch-up day. Well, this time around we figured that there was enough slack to wait until today to update. Boy, were we wrong! We’re currently doing our best to get back to all the e-mail, so sit tight.

In today’s news, we’ve got more Dogma tidbits (naturally), including an admirable week at the box office, the latest from the UK, info on Affleck’s next project, and more.

    • Alright, well, it looks like a TON of our readers are into professional wrestling. Never have we seen such a large influx of scoops on such a small mention! Still, many of you were excited to write in and report to us that wrestler Chris Jericho had this to say about Dogma on his website www.chrisjericho.com this weekend:
The movie of the week is Dogma. This was an extremely well crafted movie that in my opinion did a lot more to turn people to the Lord than it did to turn people away from him (or her). Kevin Smith has once again created a very smart and entertaining flick.

    Very kind words indeed!

    • Does Affleck’s new flick “Reindeer Games” finally have a title? Ben stopped by his web board to announce that one was chosen, but couldn’t reveal what is was just yet. Now, sources tell us that an inside screening held recently referred to the film as “The Inside Man”. Reaction to the flick and the title was positive. Thanks to Zentertainment and Dark Horizons.
