Anyhoo, thanks, all, for making V2K a good time. You were such a lovely audience, I’d’ve love to take you home with us. I’d’ve loved to take you home.
But, you know – I got a wife and kid.
Glad you enjoyed the flicks. It was like sharing the best-kept secrets you have with a bunch of friends. While I love ‘em all (except that fucking ‘Dogma’…), I’m partial to ‘Drawing Flies’ the most.
“‘Drawing Flies’?!?” you say. “Yes,” I say. And here’s why…
Without ‘Drawing Flies’, there’s no ‘Chasing Amy’.
Let me clarify: without ‘Drawing Flies’, I don’t think I would’ve hipped to how powerful a performer the Lee man could be. Yes, he was funny in ‘Rats’; hell, he WAS ‘Rats’. But it wasn’t until I saw Malky’s ‘Flies’ footage of Lee going nuts in the woods that I was able to start writing the Banky stuff in ‘Amy’ – the stuff, I might add (tooting our horns here, so bear with me) that won us both (me and Lee) Indie Spirit Awards.
So, as you can see, ‘Drawing Flies’ meant and still means a lot to me and the View Askewniverse.
Just thought I’d share that with you, as I wanted to point it out at Vulgarthon, but never got the chance. So kudos to Vincent and Brian for their fine flicks (which I also love), as well as Bryan Johnson (who, for my money, has made the best flick out of the lot of us); but extra special kudos to a big galoot of a Canadian who – whether he knew it or not – helped me become a better filmmaker.

For the curious as to what lies ahead, a’la Vulgarthon 2001: A Space Odysey (sp?), the aforementioned Malcolm Ingram came up with it. Here’s the plan…
Firstly, we’ll be securing the Count Basie Theater, which is just down the street from the Clearview (the locale for V2K). It seats roughly 1200. That’s a little less than triple the space we had for Monday – a BIG number, to be sure. But I’m pretty sure we’ll be able to handle it – thanks largely to the great word-of-mouth you attendees are spreading about V2K.
As for the program…
We’re looking at the entire Jersey Chronicles. All five flicks. The kicker is that we’re already working on an EXTENSIVE guest list of cats from all the flicks, including folks who’ve never been to any of the previous VA events. We’ve got a year to make it happen, so keep your fingers crossed.
Needless to say, the event will cost a thousand bucks a ticket. Steep, I know; but hey – you get a t-shirt.
Tee-hee…
Onto other stuff.
I’m now in L.A., sitting at our plush production offices for ‘VA5′. Mosier has been out here for almost a month (hence his no-show at V2K), getting shit rolling. And roll it has. We’re so, OH-so close to locking a new face into the Askewniverse, and he’s a cat that I’m sure all of you love. Why? Because he’s one of the funniest working actors that’s not-ready for prime time…
And that’s all I have to say about that.

Wait and see, folks. Wait and see.
Well, this is really a mouthful of news here. Wow. Okay, some preliminary thoughts: Vulgarthon 2001 would be a HUGE event. And if you thought parking was tough at the Clearview for 400 folks…It might be a real nightmare for that many folks! There would definitely need to be a ton of carpooling happening there. As for the guest list, it’d also help if it were bigger since 3 times the attendees means 3 times the amount seeking autographs, photos, or conversation from the celebs. Many folks go for the movies, but ALSO to have the chance to meet the folks behind them, so with triple the attendance, it’s going to be crucial to have enough talent there to keep the masses busy. At any rate, this is just the first mention of such an event, but with a year to plan it, it should be fantastic. We’ll keep you posted.
