• I was out trotting around the Philly area yesterday, so I missed South Park…Apparently, the first of the new Nike commercials, directed by Kevin, starring Jason Mewes, aired with that show (and other places as well!). Many of you caught this. Apparently, in this first ad, Jay is sitting on a bridge and talking about how comfy the shoes are…He tells folks to spread the word. We’ll have more details on the ads as we hear/see them, and maybe someone’ll even chuck them online soon…

• Kevin dropped by and made a long post last night…Then lost it. But instead, he summed up some key points of the latest goings-on:

• Remember that piece that we metioned Kev doing for Playboy a while back? Well, this month’s Playboy Magazine reports that the article will finally run next month, in the DECEMBER issue. Here’s what they say:

Pop diva Alanis Morissette plays the Big Guy in the Sky in the upcoming film ‘Dogma’

It seems that Alanis Morisette has one hand in the music business and another one waving “Hi” to Hollywood. The 24-year-old singer, whose long-awaited new album, Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, is slated to be released Nov. 3, is also appearing in a movie – the already controversial Dogma, starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and directed by Kevin Smith. Given the nearly miraculous sales (28 million copies worldwide) of the pop diva’s previous album, 1995’s Jagged Little Pill, Morissette’s role may be appropriate: Early reports on the film had her playing God.Through Smith, who also wrote and directed Clerks and Chasing Amy, is refusing to discuss plot details, he will divulge that Morissette’s role amounts to “an extended cameo” in the film, which reportedly features Affleck and Damon as less-than-angelic angels and Chris Rock as the 13thApostle, Rufus. In one early interview, Affleck said that the film center son a young female abortion-clinic worker (Linda Fiorentino) who is a descendant of Jesus. (Predictably, the Catholic League has been trying to have a talk with the film’s distributor, Miramax, and Miramax’s parent company, Disney.) At press time, Morissette was in the studio putting the finishing touches on her new album with Jagged Little Pill collaborator Glen Ballard and wasn’t giving interviews about the film.

Whatever Morisette’s part in Dogma, Smith, 28, says the singer has a”genius” for it and that “it’s almost typecasting.” Nonetheless, he had to persuade her to make the film. “I thought she had such a great presence in the video for ‘Head Over Feet,’ where it’s just her singing into the camera,” he says. “I just knew that she could act. I kept bugging hereabout doing something, and eventually she caved, thank God.” (Punintended?)

As for Morissette’s future as an actress, Smith says, “Sooner or later,she’s gonna do a pretty beefy part. I feel about her like I feel about Affleck: It doesn’t matter what the part is – they can fill it.” But Morissette should be careful if she’s shopping around for a vehicle. Madonna, after all, was great as a supporting actress in A League of Their Own, but when she starred in Shanghai Surprise, Who’s That Girl? and Body of Evidence, audiences found her to be a jagged little pill.

It definitely sounds as if this is gonna be one series to follow. Be sure and grab your copies before they’re gone! Comic retailers and Kevin himself tell us that these books just do NOT stay on the shelves for long.

• We’ve taken the liberty to give the summaries yet another facelift, as well as update some information, with new Q&A, changed answers, and more! Be sure and stop by and read EVERY page if you’ve never visited them, or, if you’re an old summaries fan, let us know what you think! The Crossovers Page has gotten an extensive update with all the comics info, plus the Dogma Page now features more accurate stuff (though Dogma: Rumor Control is still your best bet!). Anyway, hope ya like them. This was long overdue, we apologize, but we DO want you to know that the summaries haven’t been forgotten and will continue to live on through News Askew!

• A scooper reports seeing a TON (practically ALL) of Dogma’s effects on display at a Scream Queens Festival at the New Yorker hotel last Saturday. We’d go into details, but trust us, it will MAJORLY spoil the film for you to know what these effects are. Sorry, no pics! Trust us though, they’re VERY cool. We’ve seen them all, and you’ll love them.
• Our scooper was watching a rerun of the “New Batman/Superman Adventures” and it was a Supes day. The episode he saw was about Braniac’s first encounter with big ol’ Blue and he noticed that the plot had striking similarities to the screenplay that Kevin wrote for the now-dead “Superman Lives”. It included Braniac meeting with Luthor and Superman learning about his past and the destruction of Krypton. Kind of interesting…We wonder if this was the impetus for Kev’s screenplay, or came AFTER it was written?
• Finally today, Vincent Pereira tells us that this bastard over at The Casting Couch NEVER returned his master beta tape of “A Better Place” (apparently, the guy, Edgar Morroquin, basically steals ALL movies he gets for his own personal collection)…PLUS the guy never paid Flixtour for bringing in the film. What a bum! View Askew is taking action against this place, but all we can say is, boycott the Casting Couch in San Francisco. This guy is no good.

• Well, you’ve heard the rumors, but now it’s official. The Digital Bits reports that Good Will Hunting will get the royal treatment with an incredible DVD to be released this December. It includes running commentary, ELEVEN deleted scenes, and a TON more. Read it for yourself:

The extra footage is great…Everything we expect to find on a Special Edition DVD, but the retail price is a bit scary.With Warner and New Line releasing full special editions carrying a nice $24.95 retail price, the $39.99 SRP is a bit distressing. Come on, Disney, drop those prices down a bit! You’ll sell a LOT more discs!

By the way, Vincent promises an even BETTER Mallrats DVD. And for one, we believe him.
