• Just a quick good morning here, folks — Kevin AND Chris Rock are scheduled to appear on Howard Stern this morning, as confirmed by Howard himself at the start of the show today. Director Tim Burton is ALSO scheduled to appear sometime on the program — Wow, Smith meets Burton!?!? This could get ugly.

Anyway, today’s the big day, and wow, it’s almost hard to believe it’s actually here. But it is. So be sure and grab all your friends and drive to the closet theater playing Dogma this weekend. You’re gonna LOVE this flick.

• CNN.COM now has their own POSITIVE Dogma review up, as well as a transcript of their recent online chat with Kevin. RC’s got the review, and the transcript can be read HERE.
• Could Dogma be responsible for this? Lions Gate shares went up almost 12% on the Toronto Stock Exchange yesterday. Cool!
• Ben Affleck’s appearance on Conan O’Brien has been posted in full over at Affleck.Com.
• Moviefone has been listing Dogma as either the number 2 or number one most requested flick for shows and showtimes this weekend. Ben Affleck also was scheduled for a live Moviefone chat today at 1:00 EST, sorry we missed it, we didn’t hear about it until after the fact.
• Encore Media Group, the parent company to Starz and several pay-television channels has aquired the pay-TV rights to Dogma — ALREADY! The film will debut on the new Encore channel and several other Encore-owned outlets in the fall of 2000.
• Deja.Com, a movie-oriented site, has a section where you can rate Dogma. Check it out HERE.
• Please take note: That Matt Damon shirt with the road sign that appears in Dogma, the one we mentioned was selling on Ebay, is just a regular old t-shirt. It’s not from the film, just a replica, like the ones being sold at the Stash (see above). We have no idea why it’s fetching so much dinero. Be careful what ya bid for.
• Will Wilkins will be playing all of his Dogma interview footage and other coverage on the web again TONIGHT. See our last update for more details on where to find it.
• TV Guide Online interviewed Chris Rock recently…And Another Universe managed to summarize his Dogma related comments:

• Zentertainment reports: CORONA COMING ATTRACTIONS report the title of COYOTE UGLY,which Kevin Smith had a hand in writing, has been changed to BANDITO SMILES. The change was due to a copyright conflict with a Japanese cartoon named COYOTE UGLY, and this new name reflects a cocktail featured in the film made of tequila and ZIMA.
• Also from Zentertainment: MIRAMAX has acquired distribution rights to THE THIRD WHEEL, a romantic comedy produced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck about an uninvited stranger who tags along on a date. Denise Richards (oooh), Luke Wilson, Jay Lacopo, and Affleck star.
• Ah, and thanks to Politically Incorrect, the debate goes on…

• Looks like Kevin’s snagged himself another radio appearance for tomorrow. He’s scheduled to appear on the KABC-790 radio show I co-host with George Pennacchio this Saturday at 10 AM Pacific. For those not in L.A., the station broadcasts on the web kabc.com. You can even call in for Kevin at 1-800-222-KABC.

• That ebay shirt we mentioned a while back that Damon’s seen wearing at the beginning of the film? It’s available through the Stash for $18.00 ($19.50 for XXL). Doesn’t look like the one on EBAY is a prop or a screen worn shirt or anything, so no idea why it’s going for $46.00 right now.

• Believe it or not, at presstime, it seems that Universal’s official stance is that they will NOT release Dogma on home video and DVD. This comes as a shock to us since we’d heard otherwise, especially due to the overwhelming success of the Mallrats DVD, quite possibly the most feature-rich, complete DVD out on the market today. Here’s a press release that we managed to snag. It comes from Kim Pratt of Universal Home Video. We bet/hope they change their tune after Dogma has a great opening weekend, but it’s still distressing to see this:

Unusual, huh? It’s very rare for something like this in the video industry — A press release for a flick that’s just coming out in theaters? Saying they WON’T release on video? Strange indeed. Call it another first for Dogma. We’ll keep our eyes on this story as it develops.

• You begged…You pleaded…So here they are! The lyrics to Mooby, The Golden Calf from the Dogma soundtrack! Sing along, one and all!

Instant classic, plain and simple. And I’ll never forget the story Kevin told about the joy on he and Scott’s faces when they got the chorus of little British kids to sing the lyrics…

• Ming was good enough to capture the entire Stern interivew with Kevin & Chris Rock this morning and place it online at View Askew for your listening pleasure. We’re happy about this because we were unable to get a tape of the thing ourselves this morning, and knew a lot of you probably missed it. Anyway, thankfully, now you can hear it all. Also, the Stern fansite marksfriggin.com ran a summary of the piece that covered the highlights today. It’s a shame only Jackie saw the flick, we think Howard and Robin will really dig it:

• Alrighty folks, well, here we are. There’s a slight chill in the air here in Central PA today, and Dogma’s playing in the area. Wow. How about that? Indeed, as our earlier update stated, Kevin and Chris Rock appeared on Howard Stern this morning to promote the flick. I caught a great deal of it on the way to work, and it seemed fun, though there was a LOT of confusion and cross-talking going on…Kevin did manage to get some great plugs in for the flick though, which will go a LONG way.

Reviews and articles piled in today faster than any day before. As usual, they are ALL on Dogma RC. Keep in mind that we ARE giving a voice to equal sides, so negative reviews are being posted as well as positive, though the film has had overwhelmingly positive reviews (rightfully so!). You’re always gonna have critics that don’t like a flick, no matter what it is, and we certainly wanted to be fair about everything. We’re not trying to sugar coat or hide things, but critics and fans are LOVING this flick. Judging from the mail we’ve gotten so far on the film, it does NOT disappoint. Again, we’re sorry we can’t post fan reviews of the flick here at the site, but it would just be impossible to keep on top of that. We sincerely hope you’ll all go see the film this weekend (maybe more than once!) and have a great time.

Now, let’s be honest on another front: While Dogma certainly stands to have a fantastic weekend financially, it looks like the Pokemon movie WILL be number one this weekend. The good news, as you all know, is that this flick is generally appealing to a totally different audience, so we really don’t think it’s going to STEAL business away from Dogma. The parent/kid quotient out there that will be out in droves to see that movie this weekend is just unstoppable. So, while it’s a shame that Dogma probably won’t see it’s rightful #1 spot at the box office this weekend, we know it’s going to be the REAL winner.

Alrighty, that being said, let’s get going with the update. Of course it’s mostly Dogma related, but there’s still other news going on in the background as well, and we’ve got that for ya, too.
