  • The results are in, and Dogma finished 3rd overall for the weekend but EASILY finished second in per screen averages behind the “Pokémon” flick. Keep in mind that this figure is still just speculation, but in the past this has normally been fairly accurate. Reuters says:
Of the three other new releases in the top 10, only one opened strongly. “Dogma,” a controversial religious satire about fallen angels, played by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, debuted at No. 3 with $8.8 million. Its solid per screen average of $6,935 was the second highest in the top 10, behind “Pokemon’s” staggering $10,647.

While we didn’t quite get to 10 million, this is a really fine number, and one to be proud of. The flick’s considered a success, with a very strong opening weekend, great word of mouth, and some incredible anecdotes of packed audiences around the country. Had Dogma hit the number of screens that “Pokémon” or “The Bone Collector” had, there’s no telling what kind of numbers the film might have posted. Still, a per-screen of $6,935 is nothing to sneeze at, and we’d like to take this time to congratulate Kevin, the rest of View Askew, and Lions Gate for zan excellent film, a great ad campaign, and an opening weekend to be most proud of. We’re happy to have been a part of it, in our own weird little way.
