• It actually just sort of sank in today — Dogma is 8 days from release, and hence, this is hands down the most hectic time for this site since we’ve started. With us in 2 different places now and still trying to get unpacked and settled in, as well as busy as hell with our jobs, the timing couldn’t be much worse. So again, with three times our normal e-mail flow coming in, thus, three times the scoops, replies may be very brief or slow in e-mail, and updates may seem a bit more rushed. Please don’t take any of this personally, or as a sign that we in any way don’t care, we’re just trying to tread water here during the madness. For the past 2 weeks, it’s been an 8 or 9 hour work day for each of us, followed by about 4 hours each working on News Askew, and we barely get through it all. Thus, a few decisions.

Fan Dogma reviews: We’re getting reviews from all the screenings already, and, while we’d LOVE to post them all, this just is not a realistic thought for us. If we quit our day jobs, sat in front of our PC’s night and day, and constantly worked on the site, we MAY be able to accomodate everyone. Of course, this isn’t possible. So, we decided the best way would be to encourage YOU to post YOUR Dogma reviews yourself — Over at the News Askew WWWBoard. We’ll soon be adding a special area called “Dogma Reviews”, where we hope you’ll post your thoughts on the film (Good OR Bad) and also have the chance to respond to other folks’ reviews as well. So, in short, please DON’T send us your review, at least, if you want it posted. If you just want us to read it, cool, but we won’t be posting fan reviews of the flick on News Askew directly ourselves.

As for critic reviews, chances are there will also be an abundance of these. We plan to post all points of view on the film, and not sugar coat everything (as we always have), but we ALSO plan to be selective with the reviews, again for the reason that there’s just not enough time in a day to do it ALL.

Rest assured, the site will be PACKED with news over the next couple of weeks, more than you’ve ever seen in the past, and we’ll be covering the flick as much as humanly possible. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation during this time, and most of all thanks a ton for visiting the site.

• The boots that Jay Mewes himself wore appear to be on the auctioning block on EBay — The bid’s at $150.00 right now, with a day to go on the things. The listing says thay Jay would be willing to personally sign the things to the lucky buyer, too. Surf over and bid if you want your chance to own a piece of Dogma history!
• According to Dark Horizons, Matt Damon had begun filming on his next flick, “The Legend of Beggar Vance”. Read more at their excellent website HERE.
• The webmaster of Jay-and-Silent-Bob.com wrote us to ask us to let all of you know that he’s having server problems, and plans to have things back to normal as soon as possible. Those of you that use the site’s free e-mail service can check your mail HERE.
• There’s a Q&A with Malcolm Ingram, director of the still unavailable VA Production “Drawing Flies” (and the forthcoming “Tail Lights Fade”) over at www.the-scoop-news.com. Check it out! And watch for some more info on the elusive Drawing Flies from us as soon as the Dogma hoopla calms down.

• It sounds like lots of you missed Kevin’s appearance on Conan O’Brien last night, due to confusion over the guest order, or election coverage, sports coverage, etc. We caught it, though, and are happy to present the clip in RealVideo.

Kevin actually had the FINAL appearance on the show, not as the first guest as we’d originally been told — He was very mellow, made a great oral sex joke, and showed a very short Dogma clip (With a funny bit from Jay).

We’ve even got a thumbnail that Gramp attempted to take from the audience, but without flash photography it was kinda tough.

• The craziness continues with Dogma just 9 days away from your local theaters…Kim happily reports that Entertainment Weekly has already given the film an outstanding review (with a grade of “A-”) and that the review will appear in the mag’s November 12th issue. TONS of folks (including us) are avid EW readers, and know that a thumbs-up from those guys is always a good thing.

Today, more Dogma news, mostly regarding the upcoming television appearances for the flick. We’ve also got some more non-college screening information (Remember, check the official Dogma site for the latest on the college engagements), and a new article or two (Check Dogma Rumor Control for the full transcript of the Dogma article from “George” magazine, very huge thanks to Neil Gabriel for taking the time to type in the sucker).

Alrighty then, heeeeere we go:

• Dogma will see some coverage on Access Hollywood tonight. No idea what the piece is actually centered on, but the promotion seemed to center around Damon & Affleck’s involvement.
• If you missed the Conan appearance and want to see a better copy than our RealVideo version above, you can also catch a rerun in most markets at 3:00 ONE WEEK after the original airdate. That means at 3:00 AM NEXT Tuesday, Kev’s show should air. Also, note that Total Request Live will play just twice on Thursday, in the afternoon and the evening, so be sure to tune in or set the VCRs tomorrow for that one.
• The online webzine, Naked Face, has posted a very nice piece on Dogma’s New York City premiere, including bits from the press conference, the film itself, and more. The magazine covers the NYC scene, in and out.
• The new issue of Spin (with Beck on the cover) has a page devoted to Dogma. The article is titled “How to make a movie not intended to piss people off”. It lists 8 things in the movie (definitely full of spoilers) that would piss people off, with each one including quotes from Kevin and Scott and a list of potential offendees. We hope to have a transcript soon.
• Excerpts from Ben Affleck’s Playboy interview can now be found online HERE. The full interview can be read in December’s 1999 Issue of Playboy. Yeah, for once you can actually say you’re buying it for the articles and maybe mean it…sorta.
• Dwight Ewell, who appears very briefly in Dogma, was recently spotted in a cool clip from his upcoming flick “Man of the Century” on Roger Ebert. We’ll try and dig up some more info on the flick.
• Sure, she’s got that part in Dogma, but what else has Salma Hayek been up to? Well, we’ll tell ya. She’s just signed on for the starring role in the next Mike Figgis project called “Time Code 2000” which is described as an intense psychodrama. It involves a woman who wants to begin her life again after killing her physically abusive husband, but years later a group of corrupt cops find out her secret and attempt to blackmail her, so she and her actual psychologist husband try to thwart them. Confused? The interesting thing is that they say the movie will be shot on digital cameras and will involve improvisation by the cast. Sounds intriguing.

Also, she’s just wrapped up filming the crime caper “Chain of Fools”, in which she has the lead role opposite quite a talented cast that includes people such as Steve Zahn, Claudia Schiffer, David Hyde Pierce, Jeff Goldblum, Elijah Wood, Lara Flynn Boyle, Tom Wilkinson and others. It hits theaters this March.

• Not to overshadow Kev’s appearance, in fact, you probably wanna WATCH Kev and tape this one if you’re up late tonight:But George Carlin will be appearing on the Late Late Show With Craig Kilborn. This show airs at the same time as Conan.Nothing like saturating the market with Dogma promotion! Carlin’s great on talk shows, though, so be sure and set the VCR for this one as well as Kev’s stint with Conan tonight.

SIDENOTE: Carlin is ALSO scheduled to appear on Art Bell‘s AM radio program on the 10th of November during the third hour of his programing, which runs from Midnight to 5 AM east coast time.

• ICQ Askew has resurfaced again with a new look. Stop by if you’re looking to use the software to chat online with other VA fans.
• The Saving Private Ryan DVD is out (and ho boy, I can’t WAIT to spin that sucker up on my home theater, but I’m waiting until my couches show up) — And Dogma is indeed mentioned amongst Damon’s biography on the disc. Cool.

• At presstime, the Hollywood Stock Exchange’s current poll is “Dogma looks like a real winner, Yes or No?” The poll can be found HERE but we’re not sure for how much longer. Currently, the results of the survey have it at 82% YES!
• FilmFour (the UK distributor) launched the UK Dogma site a few days ago (www.dogma-movie.co.uk). It’s much different than the ultra-slick official site that Ming designed, but it does show the UK teaser trailer and it offers a chance to win Dogma t-shirts and posters.
• Kevin’s featured in a new article in George Magazine called “Mr. Smith In Hell.”. We hope to have a transcription soon. Here’s a taste, in case you want to pick up the issue:

Just thought I would drop you a copy of this picture. It may seem ordinary and stupid, but in the right context it was f**king hilarious. We were parked in front of the Stash monday morning picking up our tickets for the screening. We decided that since I paid the extra $5 insurance coverage on the rental car we might as well put it to good use. So as you see in the picture, I am installing a Dogma bumper sticker on the rear of my rented automobile. Photo courtesy of RugMuncher. Guess you had to be there, it was just plain hilarious. There is now a white rental cruising the Eastern Seaboard with a black Dogma sticker on the rear.

• Check out this new Dogma poster from the Official Dogma site. We’re not sure if this exists as an actual one sheet, because to us it just looks like a combination of the smaller one sheets made into a graphic, but ya never know! Click the thumb for a larger version.
• “Coyote Ugly” has changed its name, according to the Internet Movie Database:

If you’re curious how the heck Bandito Smiles relates to this film’s premise, it’s the name of a cocktail made of tequila and Zima.

• Finally today, here’s a couple dudes that got into the Halloween spirit Askew-style. Randy (Jay) Falk and David (Silent Bob) Falk shared a shot of their costumes that apparently were a big hit this year.

• Yep, you guessed it. There’s more. We’re still in complete shock at the amount of these things taking place across the country, but it really does seem that a TON of colleges and big cities will be showing Dogma in the next 10 days, BEFORE it opens nationwide. Here’s the latest additions:

• The University of Wisconsion-Madison has the flick on November 9th at 7:30. It’s open to the public, too. Door open at 7:00 with a showtime of 7:30. The screening’s at the Memorial Union of UW-Madison (800 Langdon Street, 608-265-3000 for info desk). From a source: “The Wisconsin Theater holds about 1400 people, and it has a small screen and shitty sound, so get there early for decent seats. That’s the bad news. The good news is that this is open to students and non-students alike, the price is right, and there’s rumors of free swag for giveaway goodness.”
• Dogma is screening at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte on November 10th. It’s free if you can nab a ticket, which will be given out on the campus.
• There’s going to be a FREE sneak preview on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station next Wednesday, November 10th, as well, in the Rudder Theater. Tickets will be available at the box office next week.
• The Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas has the film on Monday, November 8 at 8PM. No further details are available on this show at this time.

• We’ve got two fantastic new interviews with Kevin for your online reading enjoyment today. The first is an extended version of that Yahoo Internet Life piece we mentioned a couple of weeks ago. In it, our sites and appearance and Dogma are mentioned quite prominently, and Kevin also discusses, in detail, the importance and influence that the web has had on his career. Second, we’ve got that Creative Screenwriting interview you’ve heard so much about, and for good reason. Kevin talks in great detail about the Dogma scripting process, what it began has, how it became what it did, and the decisions involved in trimming a long flick down to a manageable running time. WARNING: The Creative Screenwriting piece DOES contain some minor DOGMA SPOILERS, mostly about who appears in certain scenes and when, but no REAL plot thumpers.
