• Yet another GLOWING review from a reputable source at AICN for Cameron Crowe’s new flick appears today. Again, the review mentions what a great job Lee does with his role of lead singer for the band, Stillwater, that’s portrayed in the flick. You can read this new review HERE.

• Here’s a really weird-sounding scoop/rumor that originated on CNN Asia Entertainment News. Whether there’s some truth to this, or it’s just a monumental mix-up, we’re not sure, but here it is for your information, anyway. It seems a bit outlandish and we’ve yet to hear a peep out of this from any other camp, so it’s either a real inside scoop or a big mistake:

Sounds a bit thin to us, we have no idea why Smith would suddenly work with Gallo and the Ricci involvement makes it seem even more like a fan concotion, but still. There it is.

• Could we be seeing that Chasing Amy DVD in 2000, maybe even this summer, after all? Over at the Home Theater Forum Sean Anderson (Director Of DVD Development at Criterion) posted this little gem regarding the Criterion release of the disc:

• Aint It Cool News has 2 stories with Askew ties today, so we thought we’d bring them to your attention. First, they’ve got a script review of “Pearl Harbor”, which to us sounds like they’re shooting for a Titanic-esque flick…A love story based around a catastrophic event, with the the first 2 main acts focusing on the characters, and the final being the all-out FX extravaganza. Will this ambitious big budgeted project work out as well as the big boat? Time will tell. Now that Affleck has been attached to the project for certain, we will be covering it here at the site, but don’t plan on giving it nearly as much coverage as a direct View Askew production (or we have a feeling this would become Pearl Harbor central, and we don’t want that). Second, a scooper caught a screening of “Untitled”, the next Cameron Crowe project, with Jason Lee. There’s an excellent spoiler-free (though there is a bit of a plot summary) review of the flick posted, and man, is it ever complemetary, calling Lee’s performance “career-making”. Here’s a snippet:

• Well everyone, we’re sorry we didn’t have advanced information on this so more of you could have seen it. If it’s any consolation, each of us missed it, too. Without warning, last night’s episode of Law & Order was indeed the show that featured our own Kevin Smith. Kevin was questioned and appeared a liquor warehouse worker. He was accused of stealing a keg and then commented on a party he’d attended. We will hopefully get some stills or a capture of the appearance for you soon, or we assume the official View Askew site will have it.

Again, sorry for having no notice of this on the site, but no one clued us in that the episode was airing, and it certainly caught us off guard when it did. We hear Kev was fantastic, though, and folks wished for more that the couple minutes of screentime he received. Congrats on your prime-time network TV debut, Kevin!

• Thanks to the brave scooper above, we now have some more information on Kevin’s upcoming appearance in Wilmington, NC. Check it out:

• It’s going to be at a place called Thalian Hall, on Market Street, Downtown Wilmington (not on campus).
• Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door.
• The appearance is on the 30th of this month and starts at 8 PM.

• Alright folks, there’s been a lot of discussion about this stuff floating around the net so we thought we’d do a bit of a reality check and set the record straight about a few things. If you read our last update, you would have noticed that Kevin mentioned that Clerks: The Cartoon Series will no longer be airing on ABC. He also mentioned that both Clerks 2 and Mallrats 2 were out, and that his final “Askewniverse” flick will be the next project. Both Dark Horizons and AICN ran stories on this stuff, as well, which all stemmed from folks who heard comments at the Los Angeles Comic Con.

First of all, from what we know, this IS all true. However, read nothing more into these items than that. ABC did NOT pull the Clerks cartoon series from its May 31st start date. Kevin, Scott, and Dave have obviously opted to NOT have the shows aired and in effect, from what we’d imagine, bought back the show in some way. Whether this is for the proposed feature film project, another network, or what, remains to be seen, but we don’t think this stuff will just go away. Anyone who’s seen an episode will agree that it’s too good to just go away.

Now, on to the films. You’ve all heard Kevin state that his next flick will be the last to feature Jay & Silent Bob. Many of you became upset when Clerks 2 and Mallrats 2 were both proclaimed dead projects. Trust us, though. The flick that Kevin’s got in the works is the BEST way to see these two off, along with all the other characters as well. Kevin’s stated that this film will “bookend” the other films very well, so we assume we’re in for a real treat. We anticipate that practically every character will return in some form or another (what will happen if Gil and Dante hicks hang out together? Banky and Brodie? Should be fun). We also think that some things may happen before Clerks, after Amy, and more. We expect to see a prequel and sequel to all of Kev’s stuff rolled into one nice package. All of this is PURE SPECULATION on our part, as it remains to be seen what Kevin will include in this one, but we think it’ll be the best one yet.

So what’s next after that? Kevin himself has said that just because Jay & Bob and the other gang go away won’t change anything. The flicks will still be just as funny, original, and groundbreaking, just with some new characters and new situations. It’s time to take the next step. And we sure can’t wait to see what’s coming up. But we can tell ya one thing…We’ll be right here to cover it all.

By the way…Since the readership of this site seems to be growing, a favor…There’s a quirky fun show on up in Canada called “Twitch City” — I just started watching the second season and it’s really good, but now I’m longing for the 6 episodes that comprised the first season. Anyone got them on tape by any chance? Also, Chris was hoping some of you die hard fans may have taped all the episodes of “Freaks And Geeks”, now that it was just cancelled so abruptly. Shame. And finally, anyone heard of an indie vamp flick called “Cold Hearts”? Been reading a ton about it all over the place but it doesn’t seem to be anywhere. Is there a VHS available? Drop us a line. • Get those TV sets warmed up tomorrow! On Thursday, March 23, at 10:00 pm EST, ABC will feature segments from Dogma as well as some interview segments with Kevin on “You Can’t Say That”, narriated by John Stossel.
• Wizard once again mentions VA in their latest issue in a number of areas. In one article, the issues compares comic book characters to who they would like to play them in real life. For the character of the Joker, they picked Jason Lee and have a picture of Brodie with a small paragraph of background info. In another area, the View Askew homepage is featured along with a summary and a picture of the front page. Finally, there’s a two-page article about the Clerks Cartoon with an interview with Kevin, info about the show, a picture from the show (the one with jay spraypainting ‘Clerks burn in hell’), a picture of Alec Baldwin (who does the voice of Leonardo Leonardo), and a picture of Jay and Silent Bob from Dogma.
• Affleck and Damon have been shopping around their idea for a reality television series to execs, which features a real life journal of the production of an independent film, a fairly cool idea, we think. Entertainment Weekly has a report:

• The full trailer for the upcoming Ben Affleck/Gwyneth Paltrow flick “Bounce”, which opens this summer, appears over onDark Horizons today.
