• Here’s a news article that appeared in the Cleveland Plain Dealer with a few details on Kevin’s upcoming Green Arrow stint, which we assume he’ll start working on soon (if he hasn’t already):

• Dark Horizons posted a link to the “Coyote Ugly” Trailer, though if you’ve been to the movies lately, you’ve probably seen it already. The trailer’s actually quite slick, and should pack a lot of seats. Looks to have a high guilty pleasure factor going for it…Though we wish the studio would have taken the “Flashdance” route and went R with it instead of a toned down PG-13, though that’s the summer movie biz for ya, gotta have that BIG audience cross-section.

• The new flick (“Stillwater/Untitled”, man we can’t wait until the official title gets announced) starring Jason Lee had a lot more press hit the next this weekend. First of all, some new pictures and reviews can be found at the Corona website HERE. Dark Horizons ALSO ran some new pics, featuring a couple of Jason which we’ve got for ya here. Visit the film’s very odd, low-tech official site for more details. We’re predicting this is gonna be a damn good flick, and the perfect vehicle to REALLY put Jason on the map. It’s about damn time, too, the guy’s been doing some fantastic cinema since he stole the show in Mallrats.
• Finally today, in the latest issue of Premiere (the big X-Men issue), when asked “If You Were a Superhero, What Would Your Power Be?” Kevin answered: “To detect and circumvent studio-exec bullshit. That or invisibility.” Great stuff. The issue also features a quote from Warren Ellis on Kev’s Superman screenplay: “It was a wet dream for comics fans,” he says, “but for normal humans, it would have verged on the incomprehensible.””. Nicolas Cage, by the way, recently mentioned that he’d dropped the Superman Lives project for good.

Well, it looks like we were right after all yesterday. According to a Variety article AND a post from Kevin himself, the last four episodes of Clerks: TCS will not see network air. It really is crazy that a network wouldn’t even SHOW the last four episodes of a new show, and would air a bunch of recycled reruns instead, but hey, that’s show business for ya:

We realize that a lot of you are upset at the last story, but we just wanted to say that no OFFICIAL word has been handed down on this to us at this point. Yes, it looks like the note we received with the schedule for next week came from a source at ABC, and it definitely seems legit, though we have no written or verbal verification from any other agencies at this point (Including Kevin or anyone else at View Askew, but knowing ABC, they may not have even notified them).

At any rate, watch this site for the latest, we’d love to come back tomorrow and tell you this was a mistake, and that you’ll get to see the last 4 episodes. We’re just sticking with what we know at this point. Thanks, and hang in there!

• Straight from a souce inside the ABC network, this announcement pretty much speaks for itself:

Well, we’re sad to see the show go so soon, but it was pretty much expected given all the press about the show, Kevin’s feelings towards ABC and, ultimately, the ratings (see below). At least the American public got a dose of View Askew for a couple of weeks, and we’re sure the show did bring in some new fans. Those folks, as well as all of you good people who read this site on a regular basis, will certainly enjoy the forthcoming home video editions of the show. No details have been announced for this yet, but we DO know that Kevin, Scott, Chris, Dave, & all the others who worked so hard on the show won’t let those last episodes go unseen. Sit tight.

• Well, things didn’t go so well last night for Clerks. Again, the numbers still seem pretty huge to us, but we suppose networks don’t enjoy seeing a 40% dropoff between shows in an hour of television. Last night, the show scored a 4.7/7, with retention of 60 percent out of a Drew Carey repeat (7.8/12). Versus its debut last Wednesday (6.3/9), Clerks dipped by a significant 25 percent in rating and two share points. ABC was looking for an improvement this week and, while it seems that a ton of the American public were in front of their sets for Survivor last night, most folks just didn’t get to Clerks at 9:30. Damn shame the show never had a chance to get its legs. But hey, we got 2 out of 6 on the air, at least. Better than none, right?

Sorry to hear about all of you in the Indianapolis area that didn’t get to see episode #2 last night. Apparently, your affiliate out there thought that a concert was more important than the show. Damn shame. Look at it this way, though: When the DVD comes out, you’ll have one more new show to see than everyone else.

Good news for you Indiana area fans though. We hear you can call [NUMBER REMOVED ON REQUEST], and leave a mailing address, and they’ll send you a videotape of the show. Pretty cool of the network to do that. Those of you in other parts of the country, don’t call, they’re only sending tapes to viewers in their viewing area who intended to watch the show and got let down. • Jason Mewes will be appearing on Night Raven Radio on June 23rd during “The Ultraviolet”. Get your browser pointed over there for a new interview in just a couple of weeks.
• In the latest issue of Newsweek (June 12, 2000), there is a story entitled”The Joys of Summer: No More (OK, Fewer, Reruns)” (p.76) which chronicals(obviously) all of the networks new “idea” about releasing shows in thesummer. Anyway, Clerks is given a nice pic in the story (of Randall andDante) and a great Quote from Kevin:

The View Askew WWWBoard had a BIG night yesterday when both Brian O’Halloran AND, in a VERY rare appearance, Jason Lee showed up to do some Q&A! Check out the posts, there’s always some good tidbits there. We noticed that Brian mentioned interest in doing a chat over here, so we’ll work on setting that up, and also that Vulgar is now being submitted to various film festivals. Jason only had time for a few, as he’s getting the hang of the whole net thing after a long absence, but he DID say that the Cameron Crowe flick is slated for October 13th.

It’s always nice to see the guys around, and we’re sure Kevin & all the fans appreciate them stopping in to say hi. Hopefully they surfed over and checked out the latest here, too…

Since we’ve mentioned it, a few more questions have come up on the disc so we just wanted to clear the air on a few things. The disc has always been a joint effort from Criterion & Buena Vista, we just weren’t sure who was putting their name on the release. So this disc WILL be an official “Criterion Collection” disc, and contain all the material that was found on the Criterion laser released a couple years back. All the deleted scenes, commentary, stills, and other good stuff will all be in here, along with a NEW anamorphic transfer supervised by DP Dave Klein and a new special DVD introduction done by Kevin. Buena Vista’s handling all the release and promotion of the disc, though.

Unfortunately, we’ve got no contacts at Buena Vista anymore and hear that the other DVD review sites have the same problems in dealing with them, so it looks like any reviews on the disc’s material from us will have to wait until sometime next week, once our mail-order copies arrive and we’ve had a chance to look at the thing.
